I have a generic laptop about 3 years old (www.qlilinux.com). 256 meg 18 gig Toshiba Toshiba DVD-ROM The install program does not see the cd. It will not boot from the cd. First I used dd to make a floppy image. That didn't work so I followed the directions in install.htm and used a windows machine to use rawwritewin. The result is the same. After loading I get a dialogue "I can't access a Mandrake-Linux Installation disc in your CD-ROM drive (TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-C2302)". So even though the install program recognizes the drive correctly it cannot access the drive. If I take the "back" option it asks which SCSI driver to load. The laptop has no SCSI interface. I have eliminated the posibility of bad media by testing on desktop machines where the cd boots without a problem. Previous versions of MD have not had this problem. The current RH beta has the same problem and I am wondering if this is a byproduct of both distros switching to isolinux? Chuck Davis

I changed the colour scheme and was now able to see the addresses I type into the to field of netscape. Ok. i think this is an ftp timeout problem like we were having before. If i go through the setup, and skip the partition format (i.e. i select mount points but then tell it not to format) it installs fine. Ok, i'm still trying, but every time i install i get a cannot find hdlists. i have tried getting cooker from another mirror, and it still says the same. When I ftp directly from the mirror, i get the same. I'd attach a ddebug.log but it doesn't give any information. Directly after formating the partitions, before package selection is when i get this error.

I know someone said they fixed the installer timeout in ftp installs a couple of weeks ago. But I just ran the installer, and it still time's out during package selection. Also. I have an HPT366 controller (abit bp6) and I let the installer make changes to my boot floppy on the first boot to allow for the drives on this controller. After the boot during scsi detection i get the following error. An Error occurred. Undefined subroutine &pci_probing::main::probe called. This is during an expert->development install.

I do an ftp install to an ftp server i have running on my mandrake 6.1 firewall at 192.168.1.1 i log in as a user, not as anonymous. Ok, it must have had something to do with the packages I selected. If I stepped through the installer, but did not add any packages outside of the normal list it installes fine. I'm doing and expert/development install.

this always mean bad things happened. I've just added a better error message for
this one:
-x "$o->{prefix}/usr/bin/dumpkeys" or die
"Some bad packages didn't get installed properly.
Please switch to console 2 (using ctrl-alt-f2) and look at the log file /tmp/ddebug.log
Also look at consoles 1,3,4,7";

I love the new package selection tool. It's much easier to figure out what is getting installed and what is not. I especially like the ability to click on "all" and select individual packages. Very nice. Very good job. I love cooker :).
