RE: [Cooker] Cooker RPM help needed!

2001-06-18 Thread Andrew P. Bielecki

Morten
The problem is that you didn't installed locale 2.3.1.1. If you get system which has
locale 2.3.1.1 installed, just copy
/usr/share/locale directory on to your system and once you do this, rpm will stop
segfault on you and you can upgrade your locale to
2.3.1.1 after all. The Mandrake is known for loose package dependencies checking.

Hey Morten,

You could try and download the precompiled binaries that can be found on
the rpm.org ftp site. They do come in tarballs and make things a little
simplier.

I seeem to have made a mess of my Mandrake 8.0 dist. with some
rpm-4.0.3-packages from COoker. I segfault'et when you tried to do anything
elsa but watch the --help. Trying to fix this I installed rpm-4.0.2 from the
sources from www.rpm.org, but it complains:
error: cannot open Packages database in /var/lib/rpm

What can I do but reinstall 8.0? Of course I need to downgrade to the
4.0-package in the 8.0-installation, but this is a bit hard without a working
 rpm ,-)

Son, this list is about the actual DEVELOPMENT of cooker, and those

Despite the involvement with cooker rpm, it is still just a newbie
 question.
Make sure you rebuild-ed your database and one word if that dont work:

Glad to be of assistance :)

Have a look at the RPM section of our website. Then consult the document
called mdk-rpm mini HOWTO. All should be there.

If u know how to make yourself a super user u can "swap" to root without
needing to login again, even some programs allow u to use them
 aslong as u
 know the password for root.

?? but you erally don't needt o be root to build rpm packages. you just need
to add a line to .rpmrc / .rpmmacros (can't remember which one.) and change
the topdir to your home directory and cerate the necessary RPm dir in ~/

you can login as a normal user and then su to root if you are too lazy to
create the dir, but it's not necessary. all are told in the mdkrpm howto.

geoff.

 Pieter

You need if the package contains device nodes. You cannot create them
as a user... This is only since 2.2 though, and I wonder why...
