I hope XFree86 will make it to 4.3.0 (and resync with DRI devel) by that
date, then.
Would be a boon for us ATI users.

How would you like it if I told a all-Gnome user to install the KDE libs
if he wanted to use Licq ? It would not be very nice, IMHO.

I use strictly WindowMaker here, so, no thanks ...

Wait for the KDE based ICQ clients to support KDE2 ..

[Cooker] Release Date of 7.2 and RC problems

2000-10-17 Thread Nick B

After a few people have told me to download the RC of MDK 7.2 I did so, but
there were tons of problems with the RC that made me think it was still
pre-beta ;(

First off: I get into KDE 2.0, I start configuring it like I usually like it
(I have used KDE2 since the first alpha). Then I come to find out that the
"Styles" kcm module wont load no matter what I do.

Second: I have no sound... I go into HardDrake and attempt to configure it.
All attempts completely fail and I end up having no sound. So I go into
console and type: 'sndconfig'. And then it tells me that that doesnt exists.
It seems that sndconfig is the only thing that will get my Sound Blaster AWE
64 to work. I dont need suggessions on how to fix this, I think it should be
fixed in the distro, not by me. Solution: Re-implement 'sndconfig'.

Third: I notice that a few programs here and there dont seem to load (just
like the "Styles" menu). I dont remember which ones.

Fourth: None of the programs were compiled with KDE 2.0 support. IE: Licq,
Kvirc, etc. I know this isnt a bug/problem, but it seems that Mandrake likes
KDE a lot and you would think that they would do such a thing.

Fifth: The fact that MDK got impatient and released KDE 1.99 with
7.2-release. (Correct me if I'm wrong about this, but I've talk to a couple
people that work at Mandrake that said they were thinking about it/going to
do it. They also told me that the release of KDE 1.99 with MDK 7.2 has
binary incompatibility with the KDE 2.0 release).

If someone could inform the proper people about that stuff, that would be
nice. I didnt say that stuff to get help on how to fix it, I just like
Mandrake/RedHat because they (usually, but not anymore it seems like), work
out of the box. Mandrake 7.0 was the best Mandrake release and Redhat 6.2
was the best one in my mind too.

Also, does anyone know the DATE of the 7.2 release? Is it planned? Has it
been delayed? I still havnt gotten a clear answer on this.

 Thanks,
Nick Betcher

Re: [Cooker] Release date of 7.2

mandrake doesn't make public the main ftp in order that it will be available
to mirrors. No, the files in the 7.2beta dirs are more up to date than beta3,
it's rc1. rc1 iso's are available but there have been changes to the file
tree since iso's came.

you want the 7.2beta dir - it's the most up to date "nearly-stable".

[Cooker] Release date of 7.2

2000-10-17 Thread Nick B

Hi guys/gals,
I was wondering what the date is set for, for the release of 7.2 ISO? I
am downloading all of Cooker right now and I'm going to make an ISO of it
after its done. Its October 16th at 12:00pm, is this the same as 7.2 release
(or close to)? Any help on dates would be highly appreciated.
