[Cooker] Some strange things I have found out with Mandrake 7.0-2

2000-04-16 Thread Alen Salamun

Hi!

So here they are:

- When installing Mandrake and I was asked if I want it to detect PCI
devices I said yes and selected my
SCSI Adapter (INITIO). Initialization worked perfectly (modules loaded
ok and so on) but then it just hangs with following in the console:

Error opening securiry policy file
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/Xserver/SecurityPolicy
Glib warning: getpwuid_r() failed due to: no such user 0.
shnget gailed! at /usr/bin/perl-install/install_steps_gtk.pm line 759

(some text can be wrong, since I only wrote it down on paper quickly...)

- Kernel can't be rebuiled without SMP if "make mrproper" is not
executed before...
- bin86 package is not installed by default and no dependency is made to
kernel-source (source can't be build without this one)
- When UUCP package is installed, it can't write to /var/log/uucp/
(probably depends on the security level selected) so tools complain and
don't work!
- In postfix rpm, rmail program is missing (it is used by uucp mail
transfers)! This program is a standart part of postfix or sendmail
distribution...
- g++ is not able to compile if libstdc++ is not installed. And there is
no dependency on that when installing g++...
- kpilot doesn't works (crashes...)...Seems like problem with qt
libraries...(Jpilot works OK)

- I think that Mandrake should specifically ask user if he want's to
install gcc,make...even if server installation is performed...Some of us
just need that by default...I don't mind having that on server...

This would be it :)

Bye, Alen

seems a kernel pb to me ?

this happens everytime. not a pb.
