I had a similar problem. In kde my XMMS program and other music programs
would not work. Xmms would load the song and then fast forward through
and I would hear no sound and I noted that the volume control was
always at 0. I deleted the .xmms directory and now sound plays in xmms
correctly. I don't have sound event selected or use them so I haven't
checked this out.

Thanks Ray,

After I tried that, I still did not have any sound events in KDE , even
though sndconfig set it up without a problem. I logged into GNOME and I had
sound events. Went back into KDE no sound, however, when using cdplayer,
there was sound 8-).I did not try using cd player before. It looks like
KDE has a problem with sound and sound events (Based on other psotings)

BTW, I still get the resource busy under harddrake. Maybe the next version
of KDE will have a fix for this

I am using the same card.. The trick seems to be run sndconfig from a console
outside of kde.. ctrl-alt-F3 and then run sndconfig and all works.. I have
done this on every beta and it works most everytime..

[Cooker] Sound problems with sb on rc

2000-10-16 Thread Bob Kuc

OK I am totalally fustrated. can't get my SB16 to work on rc1. Works in
7.1.

The card is a SB16 PNP.

When I go into harddrake and run configuration, I get the sound playing that
sound has been configured after I hit OK. After the playing I get a box
popup saying

init_module: Device or resouce busy
/lib/modules/2.2.17-21.mdk/misc/sb.o:insmod
/lib/modules/2.2.17-21.mdk/misc/sb.o failed
/lib/modules/2.2.17-21.mdk/misc/sb.o:insmod sb failed

Ehat can I do to get this sound working?

Thanks
Bob
