yes I don't use it for anything that would touch a config file as far as I
know. That would be shear madness. Well the samba plugin i use to add users,
sync linux user accounts with samba and then I restart but I don't do any of
the things that would mess with smb.conf directly.

Find it in KDE Control Center->Networking->Samba Configuration.

If these are IPs on your network, you either need reverse DNS (which can
be done easily with DDNS+DHCP, but we need a gui for this, or possibly by
installing nss_wins, which apparently will work without WINS, but we have
WINS and DDNS).

I had a bad experience with it once, where it trashed our postfix aliases
file, we had made a lot of changes since backups had run the previous day,
and it lost them all ... so I am very careful with it if I use it ...

I have not used it yet but if you would like to point me to were I can get it
I'll install and see what can be done.

On a side note your lisa script is working pretty good. I'm able to browse
pretty good. Still by ip's but better than nothing.

As for webmin it is simply so easy to use it is a great little tool at least
for somethings and until something as all encompassing comes out it's all we
got kinda.

I don't know this I never use it for apache but it works very well for mysql
and I use it for samba a fair amount also. I don't do smb.conf with it but I
use it for everything else samba related that it does. The smb.conf is done
by me by hand.

I have not taken a good look at libconf but looked
into something that the guys at clarkconnect.org are
doing. They are defining an API that would allow a
developer modify conf files thru calls. Their API is
limited to their server/firewall but it looks very
interesting. Maybe you could take a look at it (and
Dams too).

I have not looked deep into what they are doing just
what they describe at:

http://www.clarkconnect.org/devel/api.php

Hope this is informative,

I haven't tried comanche since I setup my first apache server, which was a
long time ago (in the days of Netscape 3 and IE 2!). I thought it
might be worth something in a few years, but then I learnt how to use a
text editor (which was easier ;-)).

> Maybe the redhat 9 apache2 config gui
> is slightly better, or just works better?

Some of the RH9 GUIs aren't bad, but are way too limiting (especially
their samba one!). The authentication ones aren't bad.

> (just wanted to try and be innovative for 9.2;))

Oden, I really think you need to look at libconf, and give your input on
what a GUI for Apache needs to do. I have started giving Dams some ideas
for samba. libconf has a "template" (templates are regex's telling libconf
how to parse the config file) for Apache, but no GlueConf yet (maps config
file type to filename and a few other things).

Have a look on the Wiki under the Development Task. I will see if I can
adjust the simple UI Dams sent me (about two pages of perl) and the Samba
GlueConf to Apache so you can see what it looks like, but in the meantime,
install:

http://savannah.nongnu.org/download/libconf/unstable.pkg/0.19/perl-Libconf-0.19-1mdk.i586.rpm
(or rebuild the srpm from http://savannah.nongnu.org/files/?group=libconf
if you want)

Then, run perl on this file:
http://ranger.dnsalias.com/mandrake/cooker/smbconfig

(you need a /etc/samba/smb.conf for this)

It's a very basic prototype Dams sent me, just to show how libconf can be
used, and I am trying to use it to work on a template and Glueconf file
for ldap, and then maybe Kerberos (kerberos uses the same type of config
file as samba).

Take a look, and I think if everyone who knows what a regex is can bash on
libconf a bit and contribute some templates/GlueConf, we can probably get
something useable quite soon ...

If I had more perl experience

(Dams, hope you don't mind me evangelising libconf a bit .. I think it
rocks from what I have seen so far)

Regards,
Buchan

Does the webmin module work good for apache2?
This morning or yesterday there was someone asking that same question on irc,
and nobody really knew.
I'm just asking, because the config for mandrake's apache is rather
customised, and a lot of people use webmin.

slightly better, or just works better?
