TV, do you use mandrake's libiconv or abiword's?  This may be related.

[Cooker] is abiword supposed to handle iso2 out of the box?

When I read a czech .doc file into abiword it displays the iso-2
specific characters as small circles. 
There's something about setting up fonts in abiword documantation but I
did not try it because I do not intend to use this too much. I only set
LANG as described in the docs and it did not help.
If somebody is interested I could try to figure out how to make it work.
OpenOffice can read the document correctly but crashes just after
loading it ;-)
