Because I thought at first you would only want to use enterprise on servers. And actually also because I thought we already had enough kernels anyway. But than people started to request highmem support, so latest smp kernels also had highmem support. But it was still i586, not i686 compiled. Ofcourse, discussions for 9.2 multimedia kernel are welcome... d.

AVM seems not to be able to write these driver SMP capable. So an SMP kernel would crash really fast with these drivers (There exists a patch for the USB devices that at least wont let the driver crash the kernel. But this patch is untested with a real SMP system and the patch can not be used with all devices so I just don't build for SMP. Steffen

Yep thats the case. Thats why I wanted to get modules for the secure kernel too. For multimedia I guess its just installing the mm-sources and compile the same package against it ? Don't know. I think it would be worth to have the highmem patch in normal kernel, as it is not utopic to have 1 Gig of ram in a desktop with current prices. Thanks for the replies, I wanted to make sure to dont miss a kernel with a rebuild of my package. Steffen

But enterprise is SMP (and I think Steffen's modules don't like SMP). In most cases, kernel modules (ie winmodem, NVidia) are provided for up, smp, enterprise, but I suspect there may be reasons why Steffen would want to provide modules for secure (which would also make one wonder if it is worthwhile providing kernel modules for winmodems for secure kernel, since people may be using a winmodem on an ICS box or similar). Compiling for -mm kernel should be no different from normal kernel, since -mm kernel also has smp and source packages (why no enterprise?). [Cooker] kernel versions
Hi ! I'm a bit stuck now. I just need a quick pointer. As I cann see we have the following kernels - normal - smp - enterprise - secure - BOOT BOOT I suspect to be the kernel for install disks, so if I want compile a driver package for all Mandrake UP kernel I have to provide them for the normal kernel and the secure kernel, am I right ? Thanks Steffen
