[Cooker] nVidia drivers and Cooker-8.1

2001-09-06 Thread J . A . Magallon

Hi.

I will try to send this also to nVidia people.

Please, could somebody in Mandrake ask nVidia to rebuild the drivers for XFree4.1 ?
I still do not understand how they work. They have even undefined symbols:

(II) LoadModule: nvidia
(II) Loading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/nvidia_drv.o
(II) Module nvidia: vendor=NVIDIA Corporation
compiled for 4.0.2, module version = 1.0.1512
Module class: XFree86 Video Driver
...
(II) Module ramdac: vendor=The XFree86 Project
compiled for 4.1.0.1, module version = 0.1.0
ABI class: XFree86 Video Driver, version 0.4
Symbol xf86PrintEDID from module /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/nvidia_drv.o is
unresolved!
Symbol xf86InterpretEDID from module /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/nvidia_drv.o
 is unresolved!
(II) do I need RAC? No, I don't.

Damned closed source *g*

I figured it was 4.1.0 that was messing me up. I installed the latest
nVidia drivers on Mdk8.0 updated to Freq2 and it has a fit every time I
close an OpenGL app. (Takes XF86 out with it.)

Why do you want this ? Do you think of people who have XFree 4.1.0 ?
as the driver works, I can't see where is the problem.
The problem seems to come from you.
What did you use ?

I had that result before, but with the new driver patched for devfs, I had no
glitch when stopping FlightGear.

I do not ask to remove 4.0 support, I ask to add 4.1 support. Would you trust on
a kernel module built for 2.4.0 and loaded under 2.4.9 ? I see this is the same.

Yes, I know It works, doesn't it ? So shut up. Yes, It works for me. But, as
being binary-only, the best that nVidia can do is supply binaries for all both
versions of X, even if it is only to make people a bit more happy. I do not ask
drivers are in XFree upworths compatible. So a driver that works in
XF4.0 should also work in XF4.5 There is not a real big
difffernts between XF4.0.2 and XF4.1 so no need for to different
drivers. With the kernel there is no quarantee between different
versions. So seeing a driver work on linux-2.4.8 and linux-2.4.9 is not
garanteed.

to support a pre-release-beta version of anything. I ask for support for the
CURRENT version of XFree. It is so difficult to take it and rebuild ?

[Cooker] nvidia drivers for cooker

2001-03-25 Thread Con Kolivas

To clarify the situation

NVIDIA drivers packaged specifically for cooker are available at:

http://crazy-horse.net/cooker

You need the following files:

NVIDIA_GLX-0.9-769_2.4.2-20mdk.i686.rpm (.98mb)

NVIDIA_kernel-0.9-769_2.4.2-20mdk.i686.rpm (243k)

README.NVIDIA (676 bytes)

and a sample

XF86Config-4

these will be kept up to date with kernel changes in cooker. The
extension 2.4.2-20mdk should tell you which kernel they are designed
to work with.

Enjoy
Con.
