[Cooker] pcmcia.img doesn't boot

2003-09-26 Thread Mark Draheim

it won't even show the first boot screen. I tried several floppies and
even burnt the image to CD to make sure that my floppy drive isn't
faulty. I downloaded the img again just in case the file was corrupted
at download.

This is on an old Pentium 233 laptop. The network.img boots just fine
but it doesn't have the module for my pcmcia ethernet card.

RE: [Cooker] pcmcia.img - more problems

2001-12-05 Thread Robert Fox

Sorry - forgot the attachment . . ..

There is a problem because it constantly is trying the media (especially
when I start a KDE session!) - Which majorly slows things down. There
seems to be a long timeout period before it gives up trying to access
the drive, and the KDE session is horribly slow.

Can this have something to do with supermount? Is there a change in
fstab which I can make to correct this?

This problem wasn't there until recently (newer kernels)

Even with media in the drive (standard floppy) and is mounted, these
errors still occur. The media is readable.

Attached is the full syslog.txt to see how many errors there are!

So far there is no problems - on boot it tries to get partition table
off your LS120 and fails because there is no media in drive.

What happens when you insert media and try to access it?

I got other problems now - most seriously, there appears to be a problem
with the LS120 floppy on the notebook under the latest Cooker (drive is
fine)

Attached are the dmesg, syslog and messages text.

As for the Lilo problem, I went under advanced and added a manual entry
for the 2.4.16 kernel and it worked under the install.

Re: [Cooker] pcmcia.img 20000913 19:18 - pcmcia 3c589_cs always not configurable...

2000-09-13 Thread Franco Silvestro

Now I tried with hd.img in end of installation I have on console f1 same
messages of first bug report "failed umount some filesystems", may be is
important that on console f4 I see initial probing infos : after <30>
messages of correct cardmgr probing on socket 1and insmoding of
/modules/3c589_cs.o, correct <6> parameter messages (io, irq and hw_addr) ,
there are some <30> cardmgr messages with :
...: executing : './network start eth0'
...: + ./network: /etc/sysconfig/network-script/ifup: not found
...: start cmd exited with status 2
...: exiting

may be before with pcmcia.img were scrolled away;o)

P.S. Same problem with this 2.2.17-3 kernel as reported in other relative
bug report (extract inserted) but this time I can't shutdown with CTRL ALT
CANC and I've beautiful colored vertical linesneeded switch off...and
long check on filesystem;o/ (I use that time for write this
report...;o)

P.P.S. With precedent hackkernel (first time that I try it this afternoon
...awaiting your upgrades...;o) I can boot my laptop and also with XFree4
and little modifies on XF86config-4 I can use my laptop 15.4" LCD (Samsung
LTN154E1-L01) with correct 1280*1024 resolution and optimum speed gnome
screensavers flies;o)

 With Hackkernel KDE freeze in starting...;o/ but gnome works;o) I
had also problems with 3c589, but I stop testing when I've seen mirror
mdkinst and kernel upgrading;o)

cu and good work ...I go sleep three o four hours;o)

[Cooker] pcmcia.img 20000911 18:45-expert_install or rescue- pcmcia 3c589 not configurable...and at the end (also with hd.img) /proc umount failed

2000-09-11 Thread Franco Silvestro

Synched on sunsite 2911 23:59 CEST
With last two version of installer I can't configure 3c589 during install :
with pcmcia.img if I try with ftp there is 3c589-cs in list but fail
autoprobe and I can't configure it. If I use mirror on hd (also with
pcmcia.img) in configure local network there isn't in list(at beginning
3c589 was recognized on pcmcia slot 1).
* running: /bin/insmod /bin/insmod /modules/3c589_cs.o 3c589_cs
* ack! loadDriveDriver() worked but didn't load a DRIVE_NET!!
* method selection completed
* state saved to /tmp
* error in exec of second stage loader :-(
* error:No such file or directory
and installer stops...;o/

If I bypass network install using mirror on hd (also with hd.img) at the end
of installer when unmounting filesystems last lines was :
/proc umount failed
/tmp/stage2 umount failed
failed to umount some filesystem

(also seen in last two or three versions of installer...)

cu.Good work...;o)

* suggest_mount_points: hdb1 -> /boot
* suggest_mount_points: hdb6 -> /
* suggest_mount_points: hdb7 -> /mnt/hdb7

doesn't it propose?

it should:

  $o->ask_from_listf(_("Root Partition"),
 _("What is the root partition (/) of your system?"),
 \&partition_table_raw::description,
 [ install_any::find_root_parts($o->{hds}, $o->{prefix})

can you give the lines containing suggest_mount_points in the ddebug.log?

[Cooker] pcmcia.img 20000904 15:53 usual problem in upgrade with find_root_part

2000-09-04 Thread Franco Silvestro

In my laptop I've two cooker install (two root partitions) : expert upgrade
installer choose automatically hdb1 as /boot and hdb6 as root but if I want
upgrade hdb7 as boot and hdb9 as root I need manually mount partitions in
shell console.;o)
May be better a confirmation before auto-choose...;o)
