I always like dot-d stuff :-) Good idea BTW

Ok the only way would be to create a /etc/local.d/ thing to handle
setting like that...

The problem is that with devfs no IDE device node for ide-scsi's devices
is created so you cannot use hdparm to turn DMA off.

you can put also this setting in

Which variable exactly? /proc/ide is outside of /proc/sys and there
nothing in /proc/sys that controls DMA.

Please, read cooker thread with subject

"devfs & my cd-rw ide device"

True but we don't have a tool that could do that.

Read /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit:

# Turn on harddisk optimization
# There is only one file /etc/sysconfig/harddisks for all disks
# after installing the hdparm-RPM. If you need different hdparm parameters
# for each of your disks, copy /etc/sysconfig/harddisks to
# /etc/sysconfig/harddiskhda (hdb, hdc...) and modify it.
# each disk witch has no special parameters will use the defaults.

[Cooker] rc.local misused on Mandrake

2002-01-27 Thread Borsenkow Andrej

It may be too late but ...

rc.local is meant for *local* stuff. On Mandrake it is delivered as part
of initscripts. It means, that depending on SPEC file one of two things
happens

- either it is overwritten on update and so local changes are lost

- or it is not changed and so possibly important changes may be not
installed.

Not every user knows about *.rpmnew files; and when you install using
rpmdrake you get *no* feedback (that is the main reason I do not use it)
and do not know if you have to look and compare old and new file.

I'm just thinking where to put

echo -n using_dma:0 > /proc/ide/ide1/hdd/settings

as best :-)
