It's a matter of good will and mutual respect. If no one follows
any rule, then we can post in html, talk french on this list and
discuss about latest osx patches.

Thanx! another small thing: when a file is already in cache, it still logs into the
server and
dowloads a .listing. I guess since rpmdrake already knows the name and therefore
version of a file,
this is not necesarry? (hope this is clear;)

Hum this is rather a urpmi thingy (who decides where to find the
files..), maybe Francois can answer to that?

Good suggestion, I'll try to implement that in grpmi once initial
new rpmdrake is uploaded (this week I hope).

Would it perhaps be possible to keep alive connections to remote sources?
Updating 20 packages from an ftp mirror takes very long because each time
a login is made. This step takes very long in comparison to downloading the actual
file (at least
on a fast connection).

It should work because it download the rpm itself and extract headers directly
from it, but this is much more a hack to allow rpminst to work instead of
anything else ...

diskdrake really ?

In fact you can use the following command
urpmq --headers glibc | parsehdlist --summary --raw -

Sure. I suggested this once. But this requires big changes to
mirror/installation media structure and all tools that maintain them
(upload script, gendistrib etc). I do not think anybody has time to do
it now; as something for post-8.2 it may be considered but I never have
seen any reply to my earlier suggestion.

Impossible in current design. To do it you need RPM header that is
available either as part of RPM file or as part of hdlist. So you must
download either of them.

I really love the speed of the synthesis.hdlist.cz but
there are occasions where I would really like to check
out the changelog or file list, etc. Is there a
possibility of having an option per item that we could
click on that would download the info for just that
