No need to buy out Redhat... Nor any other distribution. It can never hurt
to have other distributions to
steal^H^H^H^H^Hassimilate^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^Hintegrate good ideas from...

I'd much rather buy out Microsoft just to drop the entire product line. ;)

That would be the Microsoft way. Fortunately Redhat is not that stupid -
they wouldn't buy any other distribution to get rid of it; at least some
of the improvements would get into their distribution.
We're already seeing this (they bought Delix, makers of DLD) - it's quite
obvious if you look at some of the Lorax stuff.

But you are correct in not being able to buy 10 million users. I think
that is why Uncle Billy and his gang of thieves are real nervous this
time. They know they Can't buy us out.

I did like the idea of having a version of the kernel optimzed for Pentium II
as well as one for the pentium, like Mandrake already does.

Would this be a good idea for Mandrake to have?

Yeah, but you still have the choice to say no to Microsoft. Even if they
give you 10 times the salary you're making right now. They can buy your
company, but not your suppliers, employees, customers. And they can't buy
10,000,000 or more Linux users!

It is the MS way. If you can't make a better product, you buy them out
and give them all enough money that they can retire and live happily

Buy out? What good would that do? It's the people behind it that make
Mandrake what it is. If they buy out the name, I'm convinced these
programmers will just start another fork and make that the best distro.
