I noticed that 2.4.x isn't doing supermount or any type of automounting
for me. Am I missing something here or is this a temporary inconvenience
caused by the need to update supermount?

new kernel but the header files are for uniprocessor and I am running the smp
kernel. How do I get the smp headers???

I think this is a mistake. I did an RPM with --nodeps, and the kernel
installed fine without adding anything else (like kdeaddutils...)

I had same problem, just rpm -e kdedeadutils and they're gone. then rpm -i
hackkernel-2.4.0-0.31mdk and you're away.
As long as supermount is not turned on in your install, it works
beautifully.

Kernel conflicts with kdeaddutils-2.0-3mdk

Package kernel-2.4.1-8mdk.i586.rpm

I get the same error when trying to install the smp 2.4.1 kernel

Hmmm... are you sure it's the kernel package that's conflicting with
kdeutils?

On my box the latest kdelibs conflict with kdeutils, the kernel package
installed without any complaints...

7.2 shipped with a 2.4 kernel (?) Anyhow, 2.4 kernels have been
available on any cooker mirror for months, latest is 2.4.1-8mdk
The ready made works fine with 7.2, but doesn't support 2.2 style
ipchains. So if you want to keep ipchains support you need to d/l the
Mdk kernel source and header rpms and enable '2.2 style ipchains'
during config. Also, supermount.o is in a different directory than it
was with 2.2.x kernels, so you'll need to edit /etc/rc.d/init.d/
mandrake_everytime before you boot a 2.4.x kernel, to the new
location of supermount.o ReiserFS support is no problem.
