That's why I ran lilo before attemting to reboot.  This told me that the
initrd image was missing, so I created one.  Make sure when the kernels
get updated that you can run lilo, otherwise your looking at a rescue!

I got suspicous after your mail, I had travelled with my box 2x300 km, and 
did the following:

I did a copy of my mirror into a Debian Potato.

I did a rsync from Potato and then a new try to do an install with this 
mirror and got the same result. The first one was from Mdk 8.0 ReiserFs.
