update.
I can do a install if I use the network.img-2.2.17-BOOT8 to do the install
it installs to the raid drive just fine and boots to the 2.4.3 kernel ok.
hope that helps. I do get a gl1280 module that can't load during the install 
but it all seems to work.

This is a perc 3/dcl bios 3.08
I get the following error during cdrom boot.
Q Logic| QLA12160
Installation of driver failed
AMI|MegaRaid
Installation of driver failed

Then it comes up to the gui and asks for country and install type.
Then just hangs on the hard drive detection
