 BTW: you even don't need  a whole KDE2 to start KWrite.
 I successfully using it from several minimalist Window Managers.


in  any case gedit need to be fixed or to be removed from the
distribution...

Then you should start with vi, and for advanced usage get vim (I love 
syntax coloring in vim...). As somebody said, "you can't say you know Un*x
if you don't use vi".
