If you're offering, please send me a pack of Gauloise. Sorry, I've
had a hankering for these since the last time I was in Europe. I think
this is what Mandrake is lacking - a pack of cigarettes in the box. Ou est

Even if I select to start "numlock" during the bootup sequence, it does NOT
start! It could be useful instead ;)

Well...
The question is, is numlock on when you enter runlevel 3? 'Cuz I have
kind of the same problem, but it's not because of the numlock setting.
It's because of Enlightenment. Numlock is on in runlevel 3 and then
turns off in runlevel 5.

PS) At system shut-down I get a nice red: "shutting down numlock: failed" ...
 It's right anyway :))

I don't have that problem, so I'm not sure if your problem is bigger
than mine.

It works.

Go in console you should have the numlock activated.

Under X you may not have it if you don't have a file called "numlock" in
directory ``/etc/X11/xinit.d''.

I think the installer should create this file if you select it during
install. Pixel?

My /etc/X11/xinit.d reads as above
Excerpt from my /etc/rc.d/init.d/numlock (RC1)

# The following file make bash to relock the numlock key when logging
# since login unlock it.
SYSCONF_FILE=/var/lock/subsys/numlock
#SYSCONF_FILE=/etc/sysconfig/numlock

There is no file /etc/sysconfig/numlock (or NumLock)
So I created a link from /etc/rc.d/init.d/numlock to /etc/sysconfig - numlock
turns off at the X login but back on when entering KDE, so I'm happy.

The correct fix is to change the "if" statement in /etc/X11/xinit.d/numlock
from:
if [ -f /etc/sysconfig/numlock -a ...
to:
if [ -f /var/lock/sybsys/numlock -a ...

My guess is the "indicator" file was moved for FHS compliance but this script
was missed.

I have "numlock" in that directory, but numlock isn't on within X. It
does come on automatically in runlevel 3, though.
