XFree86 3.3.5 featured accelerated modes for most Trident chipsets in 32 bit mode.
Unfortunately many implementations of those chipsets won't support the acceleration.  
The
fix, if that is the probl;em for this one, is to add

Option  "noaccel"

right under the Device Trident 9525 line in XF86Config.

Might want to give it a try

I've not installed 7 yet, but with previous MD installs on my cheapo laptop,
I have to select one of the "normal" monitor types; If I select LCD 800x600,
then I get the same problem as you. Try choosing one of the SVGA monitor
options, aiming to get 800x600 at 60Hz. (You might have to choose
1024x764@70Hz??).

If you still have trouble, email me and I'll send you my XF86Config file (I
don't have it with me now ...)
