I can't see why openjade should Obsoletes/Provides: sgml-tools.

openjade is merely a SGML/DSSSL processor and sgml-tools was actually
requiring jade!
So I think the Obsoletes/Provides: sgml-tools must be removed from
openjade.

Camille.

AFAICS openjade package is currently orphan. Warly?
BTW version 1.3.2 is out for some time now.

Camille.

I'm not quite sure if it's a bug or a design flaw :)

Flepied, is such kind of situation solvable? Not only openjade &
docbook-utils, similar situation do appear in apache-conf /
apache2-common too (apache-conf obsoletes apache-common, so it obsoletes
any other package that provides apache-common).

Yes, messing around with the provides and obsoletes is only a
workaround and no fix. We should also keep in mind that this must be a
bug in rpm. If both openjade and docbook-utils provide and obsolete
sgml-tools, this doesn't mean they obsolete each other. Both package
obsolete only one part of the provides of the other package, that's
why I think it is a rpm bug. It would be nice if someone could test
this on a RH9 machine, maybe it's an upstream bug.

Very likely.

But for now, who knows why sgml-tools is obsoleted in the first place;
because either one (openjade or docbook-utils) has superseded all
sgml-tools functionality, or both packages shared some?

If it's the latter situation, we may need extra consideration...

Hi,

I'm not the packager, but I tried to fix this in the last release and
it didn't work. I don't want to mess anymore with this package, so
I'll rather wait for the return of the openjade maintainer.

Hmm, I'm not a wizard packager by far,
Can that be because both packages:

Obsoletes: sgml-tools
Provides: sgml-tools

?
If so I suggest openjade packager (Götz Waschk ?) removes these lines
from openjade spec file.

The weird thing to me is if you use --nodeps to install docbook-utils
and then use urpmi to re-install openjade it removes docbook-utils
again, But you can then use rpm -ivh and install docbook-utils without
problem.

Camille, openjade and docbook-utils still try to obsolete each other,
is this the desired behavior?
