I am using the tar.gz versions.  I boot to init 3, and attempt 'make
install'.  the error I received from the kernel is:
which: no install in
(/sbin:/usr/sbin:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/sbin)
/bin/sh: -m: command not found
make: *** [package-install] Error 127

Always use tar.gz or source rpm of the kernel driver.
