[Cooker-firewall] Troubles with mnf install - both 8.2 and cooker

2002-11-18 Thread Radvnszki Gbor
I spent Saturday with trying to make MNF work.
I started a 8.2 based install first as Florin suggested earlier - based on Amaury's
step-by-step guide.
I was using 8.2 Prosuite Download edition CD-s I downloaded earlier this year.

1. there was no fwlogwatch in the available packages (I gues that it doesn't matter as
it comes as a dependency and snf-en gets it also)
2. I picked a 8.2 mirror close to me as urpmi source
3. when I ran urpmi snf-en after a while (running fine for several packages) it told
me that it cannot find RPMS2 directory
4. I tried to find any mirror with that. The official ones don't have it. I found an
unofficial from Italy which had 4CD's online
http://borex.lngs.infn.it/ftp/mandrake/8.2/ I added it to urpmi database with -h.
5. urpmi snf-en still aborted in the middle, saying I should update my urpmi database,
something was missing.

Please let me know If there is a bulletproof source for installing MNF the 8.2 way, or
if I failed to do something.

 use ftp.sunet.se
 --
When adding media with urpmi.addmedia --distrib ??
Which url should I give? I could not find an 8.2 on that server, only the update dir:
ftp://ftp.sunet.se/pub/Linux/distributions/mandrake/updates/

so, I guess it's more difficult to find an 8.2 mirror ...
Anyone, any idea?

have you tried these ones ?
Sure,
These are the official ones. I have one in Hungary (ftp.linuxforum.hu) which is very
close to me. But anyway, RPMS2 dir they don't have.

The one I just found has an RPMS2 dir.

Finally, I used the linux.redbox.cz and I got everything.
After downloading Florin's rpms, I deleted two (frontend-fr and snf-fr).
The following comes up when I try to run 'rpm -Uvh *.rpm'

 rp-pppoe is needed by snf-en-8.2-11mdk
pptp-adsl is needed by snf-en-8.2-11mdk
pptp-client is needed by snf-en-8.2-11mdk
/usr/bin/whiptail is needed by snf-en-8.2-12mdk
rp-pppoe is needed by snf-en-8.2-12mdk
pptp-adsl is needed by snf-en-8.2-12mdk
pptp-client is needed by snf-en-8.2-12mdk
speedtouch is needed by speedtouch_mgmt-0.1-2mdk

What should I do?

What if I install a cooker from a mirror, and then install your packages?

  Florin,
Could you please reply to my original post?
I forgot to specify that I would be using a 9.0 mirror...

simply install an 8.2 version, then install the packages from
my website, run the httpd-naat service ... and enjoy ...

   My guess:
   1. follow Amaury's guide
   http://people.mandrakesoft.com/~amaury/mnf/9.0.php
   2. update some or all of the rpms found at

   Could
someone (Florin maybe) elaborate on the second part? How and what
to update in order to achieve a relatively stable
 production firewall...

the problem is that we have teh same packages for an 8.2
distro (the one used for the iso image, and for the 9.0 and
cooker). The hardware detection has changed a little bit from
distro to another ... and that's why there are some paths
problems ... etc on 9.0/cooker ... they can eventually be
fixed on the rpm: different behaviour depending on the distro
 version ...

I wonder if that exist in the final LM 9.0 release...
BTW, is cooker the right term to use for the MNF based on 9.0 platform?

In particular: There is a Cooker related bug in the network
 interfaces
detection, that may mess up with the network cards. Check
 carefully that
all the network interfaces are configured properly

Tomorrow I will upload new naat-frontend and naat-backend packages on
my
 web page:
 http://people.mandrakesoft.com/~florin/www/rpms/

so simply install those packages ... and then test ...

How often do these packages get into the mainstream distribution? I
mean how old are those SNF-en packages that I download from the local
9.0 mirror?

I want to run a PPTP server behind MNF on another box. I want to let
 the
  PPTP traffic pass through MNF.
  Shorewall has documented this:

How would I do the same in MNF?
I cannot clearly see how to configure the IP47 routing in the custom
  firewall rule.

  (running latest version on cooker)

it's not possible for the moment ... as the DNAT ACTION was included
quite recently in shorewall. If you can wait until next week .. I will
 add
this feature at the begining of the next week.

How can I test this new feature? Should I completely reinstall my MNF
cooker-way, or just update it somehow?
