nope, 

in SNF 7.2 we had to deal with ipchains and have used ipvsadm and then
iptoip. All that can be done directly with iptables now and, therefore,
shorewall does it too. We have left the ipvsadm and iptoip packages ...
but we could remove that, you're right.

I am confused.

As far as I now, shorewall will do portforwarding all by itself.  It doesn't 
need ipvsadm. 

Am I missing something??

no, this package is required for the port-forwarding feature. 

ipvsadm should be enough but iptoip allows to write a more "elegant"
configuration file.

- what is the interest to have the ipvsadm and iptoip packages installed on a firewall 
(dependency for snf package) ? I have understood that this packages are used to create
