8.2 B1: Installation Failure bo Partitioning Problem ('overlapping sectors')

2002-03-02 Thread montanus

Hi

I've just tried to install Mandrake Linux 82 b1 on my Cube, but
the installation failed on the partitioning stage

Error message:

warning: partitions sector #20529517 (1 MB) and sector #20531564
(137 MB) are overlapping! at /usr/lib/perl5/site-
perl/561/MDK/Common/Funcpm line 273

(no relevant messages on F4)

That is between bootstrap and / I know the sector numbers look
weird but I've checked them twice

Installation is done via CD (md5sum checked)

Things I've tried so far:

- delete set up partitions and choose another scheme
- delete set up partitions including bootstrap, creating a new
bootstrap and a new scheme
- create a bootstrap bigger than 1 MB
- Auto-allocation
- Installation in 'Recommended' mode
- created bootstrap as the last partition (now error is between
last mac partition and first Linux partition)
- tried ext3 and ext2 file systems on the Linux partitions

I always get this error message The problem is either between
bootstrap and the first Linux partition, or, if I create bootstrap
myself or put it in another place, between the last Mac partition
and the first Linux partition (or the self made bootstrap)

The HD is the standard Maxtor which came with the Cube Mac
partitions are all HFS+, one for 9x and three for MOX ('OS X',
'Users', 'Applications')

Suggestions welcome :-)

Regards

Support for Sonnet Upgrade Cards in Mandrake PPC?

2002-03-02 Thread Drew Lane

Is there any chance Sonnet processor upgrades cards
can be supported in Mandrake PPC?

I have tried getting this to work with several distributions of
Linux PPC, but no luck My best guess is that
there is a SCSI or IDE driver conflict, but it's just a guess

Sonnet has said they won't support OS X with most
of their cards and Linux is a good alternative for
many older Macs that have these cards

What would have to be done to make this work?

Thank you,

Drew
