Trouble with pivotroot while installing on 1998 Powerbook G3
I'm having trouble getting a BootX-loaded kernel to get to the point of doing an install. I've set up BootX to boot one of the non-BenH kernels off of the install CD, and I've set it up to install a RAMdisk image that corresponds to that kernel. The parameters I am passing in are just what came by default: root=/dev/ram3 ramdisk_size=4 automatic=method:cdrom The linux kernel boots and decompresses the ramdisk, and then it looks like it tries to remount root, and when it does so, it fails, trips over itself, and dies. I don't know what's going on here, but I'm wondering if some kind person could take a look at the boot output and see if it rings a bell. Any clues would be greatly appreciated! Memory Leak?
I've been running 9.1 on my G3 powerbook for about three weeks now and seem to be having a problem with a few applications that seem to suck up memory and bring the powerbook to a standstill. Killing the application is the only way of getting the machine back. So far, it's been happening with Mozilla, Sylpheed (Claws) and ayttm. X has also been getting really high in the memory department. Has anyone else experienced this? -- Nick Texidor Technical Director Webbods Pty Ltd eml: [EMAIL PROTECTED] web: www.webbods.com.au tel: 02 4368 6949 mob: 0414 810284 aim: (w) webbod1 (h) texinick yah: (w) webbod1 (h) texinick icq: (w) 398 (h) 173136737 msn: (w) [EMAIL PROTECTED] (h) [EMAIL PROTECTED] jab: (w) [EMAIL PROTECTED] (h) [EMAIL PROTECTED] == Public key: http://texidor.webbods.com.au/nickt_public_key.asc ==

Thanks you very much, Stew! I didn't even check /BootX directory cos I thought that's BootX stuff. Now the system fires up like a dream(of course other benh-kernel related files are also installed for its full commissioning. I just used the rpm) One more question: what are the main differences between 2.4.21.0-13 and benh-2.4.20-9? Thanks again! pbbutonsd 0.5.3a and pbbcmd 0.5.3
pbbuttonsd-0.5.3a is a new version of pbbuttonsd and should fix some issues some people have been having with it. pbbcmd-0.5.3 is a new package... Allows you to control pbbuttonsd from the command line. Both packages can be downloaded from my tree at: http://mirror.brain.org/linux/breser/ppc/9.1/ -- Ben Reser <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> http://ben.reser.org "What upsets me is not that you lied to me, but that from now on I can no longer believe you." -- Nietzsche

Not sure about the mouse emulation issue. But I believe I have a fix for the tap issue. First of all don't use trackpad notap. Rather set your trackpad setting in /etc/pbbuttonsd.conf. pbbuttonsd didnt' used to restore it properly afterwaking but it does appear to now. Try the newer version of pbbuttonsd that's on my private tree: http://mirror.brain.org/linux/breser/ppc/9.1/RPMS/pbbuttonsd-0.5.3a-1mdk.ppc.rpm Hopefully this will resolve your issue... -- Ben Reser <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> http://ben.reser.org "What upsets me is not that you lied to me, but that from now on I can no longer believe you." -- Nietzsche

Actually, the benh10 kernel with supermount and some other stuff is on mandrake-club. I do not really have a place to mirror it, but I suppose I could turn it to done so that it will appear on public mirrors. Actually, I planned to make the benh kernel rpms a bit more like the default rpms (with a kernel-source for instance). But it seems that many PPC fixes made it into main kernel. So perhaps benh can be dropped again? What does everybody think? d.

Does 9.1 work on the eMac? Any special install instructions? Thanks, Jeff
