By the way this is the Mandrake 8.0 rc1 that I am trying to install.
it loads into yaboot and things go as follows
"boot:
Loading kernel...
wrong partition 1 signature

Image not found...try again
Warning ! default_close called !"

I have tried every option yet this is all I get, any ideas? Could I
have burned the CD wrong?

G4/PCI round 2!

2001-08-13 Thread Mikael Barbo

Ok I might have screwed this up in burning the CD because I couldn't
boot by holding C, but no problem I used the open firmware to boot into
yaboot. This is where the problems are, I press enter to run the default
install, it says "Loading kernel" then stops and says "Image not
found" and goes back to" boot>". Anyone know where I went wrong? Did I
burn the CD wrong or is something else not working?

G4 PCI install problems

2001-07-28 Thread Mikael Barbo
Title: G4 PCI install problems

I have been trying to get mandrake to install on a G4 PCI, this
is the only computer I have available to put mandrake on so I haven't
had any success yet. My computer's Configuration is as follows:
Ram: 256 MB

Hardware:
Model name: Power Mac G4 (PCI graphics)
|Machine speed: 400 MHz

Drives:
Internal ATA 1
ID = 0
Hard drive | Driver version:
3.2.6
Mac OS partitions:1 | Capacity: 9.55
GB
ID = 1
Hard drive | Driver version:
3.2.6
Mac OS partitions:2 | Capacity: 42
GB
Partition 1
Volume format:  Mac
OS Extended (HFS+) | Capacity: 29 GB
Partition 2
Volume format:  Mac
OS Extended (HFS+) | Capacity: 9 GB

Display card:
Card type: display | Card name: ATI
Rage128y
Card model: ATI Rage128 | VRAM size: 16
MB

Sorry about the length of that there, just giving all relevant
data.
Anyway, I have the ISO images burned on to 2 CDs. My goal is to
get mandrake to install on the 5GB that are remaining on the ATA 1 ID
1 45GB drive. I am able to boot of the CD either from open firmware or
by holding down the C key. The problem exists once I choose an install
type, no matter what type of install I chose it starts to load, then I
get the following as the text scrolls by. "Unable to handle
kernel paging request at virtual address 1832 (error 4200)"
shortly after followed by "Kernel Panic: kernel access of bad
area PC c00a44fc lr c0004c50 address 1832 tsh swapper /1". And
this is where I am stuck, any ideas?

Mandrake & G4 PCI

Anyone had any luck installing Mandrake on a G4 PCI? I have been
tring but I keep getting a kernel panic when I try to install.
