Trust me to miss the obvious solution *grin*. OK, got it installed
now. Keyboard works, network works and console works. X and sound
do not work. But I will check a bit more before issuing a report.

Regards and thanks

I see this happen every once in a while. It's like a rounding error or something in
calculating the sectors/partitions. Try moving the start of the 2nd partition that
calims to be overlapping up just a slight amount.

8.2 B1: Installation Failure bo Partitioning Problem ('overlapping sectors')

2002-03-02 Thread montanus

Hi.

I've just tried to install Mandrake Linux 8.2 b1 on my Cube, but
the installation failed on the partitioning stage.

Error message:

warning: partitions sector #20529517 (1 MB) and sector #20531564
(137 MB) are overlapping! at /usr/lib/perl5/site-
perl/5.6.1/MDK/Common/Func.pm line 273

(no relevant messages on F4)

That is between bootstrap and /. I know the sector numbers look
weird but I've checked them twice.

Installation is done via CD (md5sum checked).

Things I've tried so far:

- delete set up partitions and choose another scheme
- delete set up partitions including bootstrap, creating a new
bootstrap and a new scheme
- create a bootstrap bigger than 1 MB
- Auto-allocation
- Installation in 'Recommended' mode
- created bootstrap as the last partition (now error is between
last mac partition and first Linux partition)
- tried ext3 and ext2 file systems on the Linux partitions

I always get this error message. The problem is either between
bootstrap and the first Linux partition, or, if I create bootstrap
myself or put it in another place, between the last Mac partition
and the first Linux partition (or the self made bootstrap).

The HD is the standard Maxtor which came with the Cube. Mac
partitions are all HFS+, one for 9.x and three for MOX ('OS X',
'Users', 'Applications').

Suggestions welcome :-)
