In the kppp configuration under modem commands make sure you allow 80 for the Post-init delay. For some reasons the Apple modems are slow to finish their init sequence and kppp is thinking their is no modem there as a result. Bingo, this is the right answer. I think that would require a driver/program to pull the sound data off the modem and put it onto the audio card. To my knolwedge nobody has written it.
