Stew,

No this is not the same machine that I posted earlier about running
640x480...that was a version of yellow dogI'm trying to get Mandrake up
and running nowand well I was fiddleing with it even more last night and
now it hangs at random places in the bootso I'll post an output of
startx when i come back from worklater...

You can bypass Aurora by adding "textboot" to your boot choice, ie:

linux testboot

For X, is this the same machine you posted as running at 640x480?  What
changed?  can you redirect the output of startx and post it?

Alright...let me clarifyi cannot start up linux with standard
bootthe start up hangs after loading the aurora service...the screen
clears and "Oups:.:Function not defined" is displayed and the system
hangson a failsafe boot i can get the system to load but i cannot start
GNOME by startxit tells me there is no driver
