Just to share the experience:

I bought a Belkin USB to serial adapter for Mac, model # F5U103-MAC.

It does not work. I found a kernel module called belkin_sa but it's 
probably for x86 version of this adapter (or something else entirely). 
In any case, it shows up briefly as "unknown device" then disappears 
from USBview. Upon further investigation, it doesn't support the printer 
I wanted to hook up anyway (HP LaserJet 4 with a PowerPrint 
adapter--which did work pretty well on a 7200 after a LOT of setup 
difficulty).

So this thing's going back to the store.  :|
