[CnD] need apple crisp recipe please
Hi everyone. My mom gave me a bag of apples, and I need to find some recipes to use them up. If anyone has any good apple crisp recipes out there that would be great. Any other recipes with apples you want to send would be appreciated as well too, just no pie recipes please. Thanks. ___ Cookinginthedark mailing list Cookinginthedark@acbradio.org http://acbradio.org/mailman/listinfo/cookinginthedark

[CnD] microwaved cake came out badly
Hi all, Several weeks ago, someone posted a recipe for a 5-minute microwave cake made in a coffee mug. I tried it, and it came out strangely: it tasted okay, but the texture was somewhat chewy and not at all fluffy; the recipe said it might rise over the top of the mug (it called for a large mug) but mine did not seem to rise much at all. My only deviations from the recipe were putting Pam in the cup to prevent possible sticking and perhaps using a few too many chocolate chips. My sister (quite the cook) says I over-mixed the batter. My grandmother, a great cook as well, says I over-cooked it. While I realize how hard it is to troubleshoot a recipe without being able to observe the cooking process and/or final product, does anyone have any ideas? My sister suggests beating the egg and sugar together, mixing the rest of the dry ingredients, then putting both together with the milk and oil. She says this will make the cake more fluffy, which is what I am hoping for. Oh, it also seemed quite "slimy" on the outside. Is this too much Pam, or should I cut back on the oil in the recipe? Thanks! -- Have a great day, Alex (msg sent from GMail website) mehg...@gmail.com; http://www.facebook.com/mehgcap ___ Cookinginthedark mailing list Cookinginthedark@acbradio.org http://acbradio.org/mailman/listinfo/cookinginthedark
Re: [CnD] A question about a recipe
You can absolutely cook this in your crock pot. I would give it 5 hours on low just to be on the safe side. You might even want to cook it an additional hour with the cover off. Jean - Original Message - From: "Brittany Simpson" To: Sent: Sunday, October 10, 2010 7:15 PM Subject: [CnD] A question about a recipe Hi list, I have a recipe that Marilyn sent in several weeks ago for beef tips and rice. I've made it before according to the recipe and had great results with it, but my problem is I have a very difficult time holding my hands level while bringing something to the oven. I cook this recipe in a 9 by 13 casserole dish resting on a cookie sheet in the oven, and my fear is that while picking the cookie sheet out of the oven, or bringing it to the oven, I'm going to tip the cookie sheet enough so that the glass casserole topples to the floor and breaks, getting food everywhere. So my question is this. do you guys think this recipe, reprinted below, would be okay to cook in the crock pot? And if so, on what setting and for how long? I don't know how hot my crock pot gets, but it has a high and low setting like most crock pots. I just don't know if it gets up to 275 degrees which is what this recipe calls for. My mother seems to think it doesn't matter and that I could do it anyway. Wha t do you guys think? The recipe is right here. Re: [CnD] apple sauce for oil?
I use unsweetened applesauce. Charlotte - Original Message - From: "Jean Marcley" To: Sent: Saturday, October 09, 2010 11:46 AM Subject: Re: [CnD] apple sauce for oil? Linda, I have only used unsweetened apple sauce or prune puree in cake or brownie mixes. It is an even substitution. 1/2 cup oil = 1/2 cup oil or prune puree. I have only used prune puree in brownies which actually gives them a richer flavor. I use baby food which had a few other things in it, but it works just fine. In fact, I use the whole small jar which may be a half an ounce or one ounce more than the recipe says for oil and they still come out really good. When I was teaching low-fat cooking classes, we made two identical boxes of brownies, one with unsweetened apple sauce and one with prunes and the brownies we made with prune puree was our favorite hands down. Hope that helps a little. Jean - Original Message - From: "Lynda" To: Sent: Saturday, October 09, 2010 9:14 AM Subject: Re: [CnD] apple sauce for oil? > Alex, > > I'm in the same boat as you.
