It seemed like they were saying you do the bag like you would a ziplock,
and then do the vacuum seal part. If that's the case, it would seem like
when you extract the nozzle, air could get back in the part you'd have to
then seal. Does anyone have one of these to better describe how the thing
works?

Hi alex.

A NuWave oven is about the size of a microwave but is taller and takes up
less space on the counter.

It cooks with the three different types of heat: convention, convection
and

infrared. Your food cooks in half the time and uses less energy than an
electric stove.

If I'm cooking boneless, skinless chicken breast, I can splash water on
it,
add my seasonings and place in the NuWave. It will still cook more
quickly

than doing so in a standard oven.

The recipes are slightly different as far as times to cook and the other
things you can do that you wouldn't think about doing in the ven. For
example, you can dry fruits in it, bake potato chips from scratch...those
are just a couple things.

I've tried the recipes that came with the device and I just wondered if
anybody uses it and does things that may not be in that book...along with
the times.

I'm not sure of anything dripping from the top. It could be a different
version from what I have.

Hi all,
I am curious: just what is a NewWave (is that two words?) oven? Google
only gives me videos and unhelpful I love it reviews (though one

anything in it that is possible in a conventional oven? If not, what

Re: [CnD] MY MOM'S FAVORITE FRUIT COBBLER RECIPE

2011-01-18 Thread Marilyn

A tart is a small individual pie, with usually only a bottom crust.

My mom's cobbler makes a top crust that is crispy.

There are biscuit-topped cobblers that have a more doughy topping.

I guess cobblers could have a bottom crust, although I haven't made one like
that.

What's the definition of a cobbler? If the crust or dough is on the
bottom,
then the fruit, then an optional dough on top and a cobbler has no crust
or
dough on the bottom but always on top. If you cut the butter into the
flour

mixture, making it crumbly, and put it on top of the fruit, is that a
cobbler or something else? And what's a tart? Is that just an individual
pie? Where's the

MY MOM'S FAVORITE FRUIT COBBLER RECIPE

You can use any fresh fruit you wish in this cobbler, but our family

favorite is sliced fresh peaches.

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees.

THE COBBLER DOUGH:

1 stick margarine, (melted)

1 cup sugar

1 cup flour

3/4 cup milk.

In a medium mixing bowl, mix all the above ingredients together. Set
aside.

Lightly grease a 9 by 13 inch pan. Pour the batter into the baking pan.

Spread evenly.

THE FRUIT FILLING:

4 cups fresh or frozen peaches, (or any other fresh fruit)

1 cup sugar.

Mix fruit and sugar in a bowl. Pour over batter.

Bake cobbler for 50 minutes. More sugar may be added, if you find that
the

cobbler is not sweet enough.

This is quite good and is a family treasured recipe. Enjoy. Marilyn.

[CnD] Fresh Tropical Fruit Bread Pudding

2011-01-18 Thread Marilyn
Fresh Tropical Fruit Bread Pudding

Who knew bread pudding could be made in a rice cooker? Well, you do now.

2 cups water
2 large eggs
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup whole milk
2 tablespoons butter, melted
2 cups white bread, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
3/4 cup fresh mangos, papaya, and nectarine, diced
3 cups vanilla ice cream

Spray a 1-2 quart baking dish with nonstick cooking spray. The dish should fit
into the inner pot of the Aroma® rice cooker with nonstick cooking spray. Set
aside. Pour 2 cups of water into the inner pot and close the lid. Press the
Steam/Cook button and bring the water to a boil, in approximately 8 minutes. In
a large bowl, cream the eggs and sugar with an electric mixer, scraping the
sides of the bowl often. Add the vanilla and milk and beat again at medium
speed for 3 minutes. Add the melted butter and beat for 1 minute. Gently fold
in the bread cubes and fresh fruit. Pour the batter into the baking dish and
cover with a piece of foil. Open the lid, using caution to avoid steam burns.
Using a foil pan lifter and a cooking mitt, place the baking dish into the
boiling water. Close the lid and cook for 45 to 50 minutes. Using a cooking
mitt and the foil pan lifter, remove the baking dish to a wire rack and cool
the pudding slightly. To serve, spoon the pudding into bowls and top with
vanilla ice cream. From Diane.

Re: [CnD] oven pancake question?

2011-01-18 Thread Alex Hall
I understand (my entire family cooks, except me) so I know all about
preferences and protectiveness when it comes to cooking implements...
My sister doesn't even like me to touch her fancy wooden
spoon/spatchela set. :) I just wondered if there was some physical
reason that it would be a bad idea, like how you are not supposed to
use cooking spray on non-stick pans (if I remember right).

different people have different preferences. I don't put some of my stuff
in the dishwasher. Just my thing. I am kind of picky about my cast iron
 too.

What makes a cake so special? That is, why is cooking a batch of
pancakes in a pan going to kill it when cooking a cake in the same pan
will not? It is all batter, right?

some one has a shit fit when you use it for something other than cakes.
