[CnD] The Older Blind Program!

2012-08-17 Thread Sandy from OK!
I suggested this column a time or two by leaving him a message from me, but
it did not go far! Cheryl is now teaching mobility in Tulsa. Some sections
of Walgreens do not get updated weekly, but that might be because they do
not look beyond the article in the paper, whereas, Cheryl would go online
and hunt for wal mart and walgreens ads. She went that extra mile!

Hi Becky,
Charyl left the service at the end of March and the Library for the blind
and a gentleman named Kevin Treece or however you spell it is the director
now. There are things Cheryl did such as an article each month called Have
You Seen This. She would describe a new product and tell you what it says
and how much it is and where you can get it. Her March one was still there
off the announcements menu.
I thought about leaving Kevin a message telling him that I really enjoyed
that feature. But I do not know how receptive he is to all of us far away
fans, LOL.
I have Cheryl reading the 12 Days of Christmas Cookies and things like that

in my group on My Telespace. That is a phone system and I have a group
called My Telespace Recipe Classics. It is an archive more so than a group
and I don't care if anyone talks in there or not, I just like the archiving.
So I have a lot of recordings of Cheryl and I hope they don't take the group

down.
I want to start backing that stuff up on cassette.

Thank you, Laura, I will explore it when I have a bit of time to spend
listening. I did try just now, and the article I ended up reading was
dated March first. I can see that changes may be coming, but the service
 looks quite interesting.

 Hi Becky,
 The number is 800-829-3255.
You press 1 to get into the system.
You go into newspaper articles, which is 2, and then features which
 is 2
 again. Then recipes is 8.
But there are many other features on that system. I have not looked it
over since it has been changed so there were a lot of things still there
since Cheryl used to run it. It has just made a transition to the
Oklahoma Library For the Blind from the agency that Cheryl worked for so
patience has to be taken with them while they still work on it. I suppose

it was just for Oklahoma people but now I know there are
a lot of us who really like it from all over.

I love those recipes and have a very large collection of them but
have
not transcribed them into braille. I put the audio recordings of them up

in my phone system recipe group. If you braille the ones you get I
would appreciate it, but I still intend to do many of the ones I have
from when Cheryl was reading them. She always did three or four recipes.

Now they only do one or two but I am glad they are continuing them.
They now read them on Monday, not Tuesday so if you wait until Monday
night or Tuesday you are out of luck. Lucky another girl also records
them into another recipe group or I would have missed it this week.

Hi Laura, thanks for your info on the older blind line. As I don't live in
Oklahoma either, I won't plan to provide feedback. I am glad to know the
service exists.
