I agree with the other people on here saying that cooking the meat balls first
then pouring the mushroom soup over them either way sounds really good

Hi there. I'm looking at cooking some meatballs with mushroom soup. I was
just wondering if I could put the raw meatballs in the oven with the mushroom
soup or should I brown the meatballs first then put them in the mushroom

with mushroom soup and mashed potatoes tonight.

8 hours on low. I usually turn the heat on high for 1 hour and than low.
Seeing you are using frozen, no comment.

[CnD] Breaded chicken

How long should I bake raw breaded chicken in the oven? For example, if it's a
breast or thighs? Normally, when I just chicken and sauce I bake it at 350 for
an hour, but I've never used any kind of breading so I would like to know.

I bake mine for 30 minute @ 350.
Here is a breading I use
equal amount of fine Italian bread crumbs to equal amount of parmesan grated
cheese.

coat the chicken in a little olive oil and coat with above.

[CnD] old fashioned raisin pie

2014-08-03 Thread Colleen via Cookinginthedark
Old-Fashioned Raisin Pie Recipe

2 C. raisins

2 C. water

1/2 C. brown sugar, packed

2 T. cornstarch

1/2 t. cinnamon

1/4 t. salt

1 T. lemon juice

1 T. butter

Pastry for double-crust pie

Combine raisins and water in saucepan; boil 5 minutes.

Blend sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon and salt in a bowl. Add to raisins and cook,
stirring until clear. Remove from heat. Stir in lemon juice and butter. Cool
slightly.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Roll out half of pastry into a circle large enough
to fit bottom and sides of 9-inch pie pan. Place in pie pan. Turn slightly
cooled raisin filling into pastry-lined pie pan. Roll remaining pastry, and
cover pie with a solid circle, or lattice strips. Trim and crimp edges.

If using solid top crust, cut slits into it. Bake 25 minutes, or until crust is
brown and filling is bubbly. Cool pie completely before slicing.

Makes 1 pie.

This was my Dad's favorite pie.

If you're lucky enough to be Irish, you're lucky enough!

[CnD] Crock Pot Recommendations

Hello,

I have an old crock pot (which I am afraid to use because it is so old).

I would be interested in getting a new one. Any recommendations would
be very much appreciated.

Re: [CnD] Crock Pot Recommendations

2014-08-03 Thread Nicole Massey via Cookinginthedark
The crock pot I used last night for a party was one of the original Rival
Crock Pots. I just put a liner in it to make cleanup easy, and it worked
fine.
A crock pot is a very simple circuit -- a power wire goes in and hits the
knob, which sets how much electricity goes into the heating element. If
something burns out it just stops working. So it's a rather safe appliance
as long as you don't immerse the base and then try to use it while the
innards are wet.
So your older crock pot should work just fine, and if it doesn't have a
removable crock then liners are wonderful at saving time and elbow grease.

Re: [CnD] Crock Pot Recommendations

2014-08-03 Thread Suzanne Erb via Cookinginthedark
Hi,
I thought my CrockPot would be too old to use, but I found that not to be true
at all. Mine is a 5 quart Rival CrockPot that is approximately 25 years old,
and it works like a charm. Even the finish inside the crock is still good. I
may get a new one some day, but this one is still working fine.
Good luck.
