I would have to contact the law firm to see if they have a list.
I'll let the list know.

Is there a list somewhere with the names of ones that have passed muster? I
get a lot of restaurant emails, but I'm not going to install an app unless I
know it'll work with Talkback. And some cases it means not being able to
participate in their sweepstakes for lots of free food for a year or a
lifetime. So I'd like to know which ones are safe.
There are also some places that still require hardcopies of their email
coupons instead of accepting it from a phone, and that's another area where
they get us.
Lastly, what about the delivery services? An accessible restaurant app is
not useful if their preferred delivery company doesn't have an accessible
app too.

We're working with a law firm down in Pittsburgh and the current assignment
is this.
We're handed a few web addresses at a time to investigate to see how blind
friendly they are with screen readers.
Rest assured, that those who don't want to become ADA accessible with screen
readers are made to go in front of a judge and they are find and required to
make their web pages blind friendly via screen readers.
The owners of the web pages and stores also have to hire consultants to help
them to make their web pages blind friendly and they must consult with them
on a regular bases to make sure that at least three of their staff learns
how to use the accessible fixtures for the web page and to keep it blind
accessible.

If anyone is having issues with a web page to a store and or restaurant?
Please ship them to me and I'll let the law firm that we're working with be
aware of the web address and the name of the company.

[CnD] Storing Coffee

2019-10-08 Thread Jan via Cookinginthedark
I've sometimes put cans of ground coffee in the freezer, when I have room
and when I think to do it. I haven't noticed a difference. I have a friend
who has worked as a cook in kitchen most of her adult life. She refrigerates
her coffee, especially after she opens the can or jar.

Re: [CnD] Storing Coffee

2019-10-08 Thread Cristobal Muñoz via Cookinginthedark
There has been some literature going back and forth on storing coffee in the
freezer. Some say it enhances the flavor and others are more like bleh. Often
though, when they talk about freezing coffee beans, it's more of really cold
temps not likely achievable by your standard home fridge.
One thing though that is universal is that oxygen and moisture are the enemies
and absolute worst things to expose coffee to if you want to preserve flavor
and freshness. I've tried freezing some cheaper beans in the freezer, but
always in air tight storage.
People as a general rule buy grocery store or large chain quality coffee which
isn't all that great and is really meant as a fuel substitute so perhaps for
the average coffee drinker it wouldn't matter as much. But if I'm dropping
upwards of $20 or $30 for a 12 ounce bag of coffee beans, I'm going to make
sure I try to keep them fresh as long as possible.
There are coffee canisters that supposedly let out the carbon dioxide and
prolong beans longer and while I do have one myself, it's not my main method of
storage. I've even toyed around with storing beans in old wine bottles and
using a rubber stopper to suck out all the air.
In broad terms, keep your coffee in a dark and cool place. I.E. a pantry or
cabinet. Away from sunlight and heat. Prevent degradation by minimizing
exposure to oxygen and don't ever let your coffee beans or grounds get moist.
Beans will always be better and fresher than grounds and they have the added
advantage that you can grind as you go instead of opening a big tub of ground
coffee that who knows is already how old even before you open it and who knows
how long it'll take you to finish it.
I'm a coffee beans over grounds guy all the way, but during the summer, I get
lazy and just buy those 30 ounce tubs at Aldi or Target or wherever to make
coffee concentrate for cold brew. It doesn't bother me in the sense that I use
them right away anyway and cold brew is more forgiving for things like acidity.
