Re: [CnD] cleaning air fryer basket
Hi, I use Dawn Powerwash. It comes in a spray bottle. It is fantastic. For most jobs you just pretty much spray, wipe, and rinse. On tougher things you spray and let it sit for a little while, then wipe and rinse. To clean it I leave the basket in the drawer, and then put it in the sink with hot soapy water to soak it for a while until my lazy self gets around to cleaning. I do have a non-scratch sponge which gets the bulk of the stuff off the basket, inside and out, then I pull out the basket and wash the inside of the drawer. Sometimes after cleaning I will replace a little more soap water in the drawer, just barely enough to reach the basket, and actually turn the machine on for a few minutes to steam off the caked on items. It smells nice, like a dish washer, but I'm doubting steam is good for the rest of the machine, so I don't do it often or for long. Anyway, I find the holes in the basket which are used to drip and let air circulate under the food aren't completely closed, but often the food is still on the edges of the holes. Using a toothpick and gently tracing the round shape of the edges, you can identify which are not symmetrical, and the food particles then fall off. It is relatively easy, but poking each, and every, hole is just not the way I want to spend my evenings. The holes are relatively large, maybe slightly smaller than the circumference of a pencil, but there's got to be a few hundred of them, which doesn't account for the slits on the sides. How do others find this chore easier? Thanks. Re: [CnD] omlet in a zip loc bag
Hi, not to be a downer or anything, but I have two sons that work at a plant that makes plastic bags for all sorts of products. They tell me that unless the bag is specially made, (coated with a special compound or treatment), that it is not necessarily safe for boiling or baking. They say that plastic byproducts such as (BPA's) can leak into the food. They told me to check the packaging on zip lock bags etc and it should say whether the bags are safe for boiling, baking, what have you. My GF and I have been searching for such bags. We found some at Target but I haven't bought any to try as of yet. Good for when all your family is together...? The best part is that no one has to wait for their special omelet !!!) Have guests write their name on a quart-size Ziploc freezer bag with permanent marker. Crack 2 eggs (large or extra-large) into the bag (not more than 2) shake and stir to combine them. Put out a variety of ingredients such as: cheeses, ham, onion, green pepper, tomato, hash browns, salsa, etc. Each guest adds prepared ingredients of choice to their bag and shake. Make sure to get the air out of the bag and zip it up. Place the bags into rolling, boiling water for exactly 13 minutes. You can usually cook 6-8 omelets in a large pot. Or, make another pot of boiling water. Open the bags and the omelet will roll out easily. Be prepared for everyone to be amazed and enjoy. Nice to serve with fresh fruit and coffee cake; everyone gets involved in the process and a great conversation piece. Re: [CnD] MicroWave oven recommendations.
I have a Hamilton Beach microwave. I bought over lays from Halo system: https://www.etsy.com/shop/HALOSystem They are inexpensive and work very well. Oh, and my GF tells me that they are aesthetically pleasing. I also have a set for the oven on my digital range. Ok, first, I know about the talking one, use to own the "TEMO," which had been sold by many stores for as little as $79, but, ours, is going out, starting to smell electronically, so I need recommendations for ones which are blind friendly. I don't need something miniature, :) but good sized, but user friendly for us to use by your definition, or, easily modified to use, or maybe even with some kind of braille overlay either makeable or constructible. :) I presume that most of the later ones have menus of some type which aren't easily feasible without sight, so, recommendations are requested! We have an LG 1200 watt now which we made a braille overlay for. THANK YOU! - Curtis Delzer, HS.
