Well, I do it in the talking toaster oven.
Usually five sticks and two sausage patties.
On the bake mode for about ten to fifteen minutes at 350 degrees.
Hope this will help out.

Usually, you let the thick bread slices-not sandwich bread from the store

Re: [CnD] french toast recipe

2015-07-02 Thread Sugar via Cookinginthedark
Hi Gary here is one from Helen, and I pretty much make mine the same way.:
Basic French Toast For Two

Got some day-old bread, a couple of eggs, a little milk and a non-stick
frying pan? Well, then you can make this recipe for Basic French Toast.

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 3 minutes
Total Time: 18 minutesPT18M
Yield: 2 Servings
Ingredients:
. 2 eggs
. 1/2 cup milk
. 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, optional
. butter or vegetable spray
. 4 slices day-old bread*
. Powdered sugar and syrup, optional

Preparation:
In a shallow bowl with a fork, combine eggs and milk. On medium, heat frying
pan on stove. Either melt a little butter or spray pan with vegetable spray.
Dip bread into bowl with egg mixture. Make sure both sides are wet. With
fork, allow bread to drip over bowl. Place slice of bread in pan. Continue
process
with the other slices. Turn slices over when bread slightly brown. Cook
final side. Remove cooked slices to a plate and keep warm. Sprinkle with
powdered
sugar and serve warm with syrup.

Notes in the Margin:
*If I've got some leftover thick-crusty bread like French bread, I much
prefer using it over regular sliced bread. Also, when I make more French
Toast
than this, I prefer to mix my milk and eggs in a 4-cup measuring cup. Then,
I only pour enough mixture in the shallow bowl to dip a couple of slices at
a time.

French toast in a mug
1 large egg
1/4 cup milk
1 1/2 tablespoons maple syrup
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Kosher salt
1/2 tablespoon unsalted butter, at room temperature
1 slice white bread
1 tablespoon semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 tablespoon raisins

Whisk together the egg, milk, maple syrup, cinnamon and a pinch of salt in a
large mug until combined.
Evenly spread the butter on one side of the bread. Cut the bread into
bite-size pieces and add them to the mug, pressing down lightly so all the
bread is submerged. Sprinkle with the chocolate chips and raisins, nestling
them between the bread pieces.
Microwave the bread mixture on high power for 2 minutes, pausing every 30

Re: [CnD] French Toast?

2014-04-13 Thread Abby Vincent
Yes. First you dip bread in a mixture of beaten eggs and milk. The bread
can be sour dough, French bread, King's Hawaiian bread, even English
muffins. Traditionally you'd melt some butter in a frying pan. Then cook
the bread on one side on medium heat for about four minutes. Then turn the
bread over and cook the other side. The outside is crispy and the inside
tender. You can also use pancake cookers you don't have to turn, Foreman
grills or some sandwich makers. If you use a frying pan, the hard part is
turning the bread and then getting it out of the pan. Spatulas with two
sides help.

The usual toppings are maple syrup and powdered sugar. You can also use
fruit, wipped cream, peanut butter, any jam or jelly, other syrups such as
blueberry.

French Toast Casserole From Patricia

Yield: 6 Servings

Ingredients:

1 loaf Italian bread--cubed

8 Ounces cream cheese

1/2 Cup Splenda sugar, divided or regular sugar

1/2 Teaspoon Vanilla

1/2 Cup Pecans, optional

4 eggs

2 Cups Milk

1 Teaspoon Cinnamon

2 Tablespoons melted butter

Directions:

Place half of the bread cubes in a greased 9 x 13 baking pan. Melt
cream cheese (carefully!) in the microwave. Stir several times. This
takes about 2 minutes.

Stir half the sugar and all of the extract into the cream cheese. Pour
the cream cheese mixture over the bread cubes. It will not completely
cover them.

Sprinkle nuts over the cream cheese layer. Top with remaining bread
cubes. Beat together the remaining sugar, eggs, milk, cinnamon, and
melted butter.

Pour the egg and milk mixture over the bread cubes. Refrigerate
overnight to bake the next morning OR slide the pan into a two-gallon
freezer bag and freeze. Thaw completely to cook.

Bake at 350 for 35 minutes or until browned. Let sit at room temp for
5 minutes before cutting. Top with syrup or fruit toppings.

NOTES : The French toast casserole is not very sweet. It is meant to
be eaten with syrup just like regular French toast, and it is
extremely yummy.

[CnD] French Toast Strata with Caramel Sauce

2010-02-28 Thread Jan Bailey
French Toast Strata with Caramel Sauce

10 slices whole-wheat bread
1 1/2 cup fat free skim milk
2 large eggs plus 4 large egg whites, or 1 cup fat-free liquid egg substitute
1/3 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

Caramel Sauce:
1 1/4 cup fat free skim milk
1tbs cornstarch
2tbs corn-oil margarine or butter
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract

Lightly coat a shallow 2-quart baking dish or casserole with a
nonstick vegetable spray. Arrange half the bread slices in the bottom
of the dish (it may be a tight fit). Reserve the remaining bread
slices to layer on top.

Combine all remaining ingredients and mix well with a wire whisk or
egg beater. Pour half the mixture evenly over the bread in the baking
dish. Layer the remaining bread on top and cover with the remaining
egg mixture. Cover tightly and refrigerate several hours or overnight.

To bake, preheat oven to 350F. Remove the dish from the refrigerator
and spray the bread lightly with nonstick vegetable spray.

Bake until lightly browned, 30 to 35 minutes. Cut into six pie-shaped
wedges and serve with the Caramel Topping.

Caramel Sauce:
Combine the milk and cornstarch in a small saucepan and mix until
cornstarch is thoroughly dissolved. Add the margarine and brown sugar
and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly with a wire whisk,
until mixture thickens and comes to a boil. Continue to boil 1
minute. Remove pan from heat and stir in vanilla. Serve warm. Makes 1
1/2 cups sauce, twelve 2-tablespoon servings.

Makes 6 servings
