Re: [CnD] question about butter

2015-02-13 Thread Regina Marie via Cookinginthedark
Well, these are your own packets. You will not be sharing them. Partially
unwrap one of them so that you can hold the wrapped end with your thumb and
first finger. You don't need a large prtion. Now you can spread the butter by
running the unwrapped edge over it. Holding it wrapped in your hand for a
minute will soften it if you need to do that. Since they give you several, it
you don't have enough and you are down to the wrapper, you can simply repeat
the process with a new one. I can use a knife to spread butter, but I learned
to do this when I was given butter with no knife and I had a togo package and
could not go back to the restaurant and get one since I was on public transit.
Oh and this method, like any buttering technique, works the very best the the
bread is hot and fresh. Enjoy!

Subject: [CnD] question about butter

I've not written in a while but I do have a question.

I like going to a place to eat close to school, and when I order a certain
dish, it comes with bread. In addition to the bread, I also get a small plate
with some wrapped packets of butter. How do you guys deal with buttering bread
using those packets?

I'm not a good spreader, but how should I handle using one of these packets for
one or two pieces of bread?

Any techniques would be appreciated.

Will

Hi Will
I myself just don't eat the butter, or I have also just unwrapped the packet
and manually spread it that way.
Hope this helps some.

Hi Will,

You always have the option of asking someone to spread the butter for you.
However, here is what I do, or try to do (grin).

First, hold the packet in your hand for a while to warm it up. Then, open the
packet. If it is a foil wrapped pack, open it over your bread and a plate. Dump
out the butter as close to the center as possible. If it is a plastic pack, use
your knife or spoon to clean out the packet on your bread as before. Then, take
your knife or the back of a spoon and start on the butter. Gently spread to one
edge of the bread, then go back to the middle and spread to the opposite edge.
Then turn your bread 1/4 turn and repeat the process. If you are using a knife,
lay it flat with a very, very slight angle and pull it all the way across the
bread after you have made the 1/4 turn. It may not be perfect, but you will get
better. Hope that helps. Linda

Here's another approach. If the butter is in a foil wrapper, I carefully open
the foil over my bread, holding the wrapper in the palm of my right hand, could
be left hand if you're left-handed. I carefully open the foil with my empty
hand. Then I place the foil butter side down in the middle of the bread. Then
I rub the foil all around on the bread until the butter is pretty much offf of
the wrapper. Then I fold up the wrapper and set it aside. This is much easier
to do than it is to explain! LOL!

Re: [CnD] question about butter

2015-02-13 Thread Janet Acheson via Cookinginthedark
I have several comments here and some of them will definitely not be popular
comments.
First, I cannot stand those little packets of butter that come to you FROZEN!
Who in the world serves hot bread with frozen butter? When this happens I very
untactfully sneak it under my thigh or hold it between my hands to warm the
butter. Yes I know that sounds disgusting, but I really don't care, I hate
frozen butter on my nice warm bread. Once I warm the butter up at spreads quite
nicely whether I use it with a knife or just plop the thing on the bread.
Actually, I never plop it on the bread. I always use a knife. I do it as
described by an earlier poster by partially unwrapping it and being able to
hold the butter by the wrapper.
Next, you can always request that you receive butter in one of the small sauce
cups. I find this much easier to manage. However, you must specify butter
because oftentimes restaurants will only have margarine for these containers.
There are my deep dark tacky secrets.
