[Coworking] Re: Coworking Annual Meeting??? - SXSW

2010-01-31 Thread Scott Tillitt / BEAHIVE
I'm going this year to SXSWi for the first time (though last year I did
publicity for a film in the festival).

Looking forward to meeting folks in the flesh. How have the coworking
contingent met up in the past?

I'm staying in a fairly nice-sized (and nice) condo (so I hear) near all the
action. I might be able to have a group over for a smallish get-together --
would need to check with my friend (it's her friend's family's condo that they
mostly loan out to people).

Would that make sense? Of interest?

scott.

[Coworking] Re: Benchmarking - Rent and Income

2010-01-31 Thread MaxBuck
Jeorge - my space is in Columbus, Ohio. I have total about 4,000 sq

at any time (though my main conference room is about 400 sq ft and can

SXSW is here:

I call it the yearly trip to Mecca for geeks. Last year there were ~12,000
people as part of the Interactive portion alone - including developers,
marketers, designers, entrepreneurs and coworkers! And yes...real estate
developers DO go and get much out of it. I'm not sure what I did without
SXSW before 2005 (the first year I went). It's where I get to meet everyone
face to face that I've only met online. And it's enormously fun. :)

2010-01-31 Thread coworking
I've not had the pleasure of going to SXSW - yet. I've read lots about
it and know several people that have gone. It makes sense to piggy
back on this event for the demographic audience that coworking
communities want to reach. To properly promote and reach a larger
population of coworking communities, I recommend planning a year in
advance for some in-depth coworking networking and community building.
Former attendees to SXSW could offer some great planning ideas
specifically oriented toward coworking communities. Everyone's ideas
posted so far sound good.

Dear Max,

Your note popped up on my alert for 'Columbus coworking' and I wanted

connections.

During 2009, I was involved with the Columbus Jelly group. We don't

The jellys still occur at the Dublin Entrepreneurial Center

communities want to reach.

Anyone want to get together for the first International Coworking Community
Annual Meeting in ummm let’s say a warm, sunny place like Miami?  Sort of a
one day event where we could discuss best practices, set some protocols for
future coworking locations and formally organize ourselves so that we can
  leverage our combined power?

Suggested topics to discuss (feel free to edit/add to/delete/etc)

  1)   Keys to success

  a.     pricing

  b.     Serivices to offer

  2)   Managing the bottom line

  a.     Financing the start up

  b.     Negotiating lease agreements

  c.      Managing monthly expenses

  3)   Marketing PR

  a.     Building awareness

  b.     How to generate more buzz

  c.      The power of meet-ups

  d.     Leveraging your chamber of commerce

  4)   Creative suggestions from some of our winning locations

  5)   How to formally organize ourselves into an International organization

Perhaps we could all complete some surveys prior, and then present the
results at the meeting as well?

  Regards,
  Woodie
