[Coworking] two floors of camaraderie
we have good news from our corner of toronto: our upstairs neighbours approached us with the opportunity to acquire the 3rd floor of our building, and though we had to make the decision fairly quickly, we decided it was something we shouldn't pass up and we are now a 2storey facility! this gave us a chance to offer a variety of types and sizes of spaces for startups and to move our boardroom to something better suited for meetings. we've prepped, painted, cleaned, decorated, and filled the new spaces with great new members. twice as big and twice as much rent, but already nearly full to capacity. happy days! -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Coworking group. Re: [Coworking] Sample membership agreements?
Our membership agreement is called a space license as dictated in our lease. In fact, about 80% of our space license is dictated by our insurance or our lease. They want things in there like a hold harmless agreement and rules against keeping hazardous materials and such. Those to documents will inform much of what you need to put in yours and it makes a great place to get started. [Coworking] First Day Protips
Somebody was recently asking about onboarding tips. This post is awesome and focuses on all of the right stuffhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbIEwIwYz-c . http://www.workshifting.com/2011/07/how-to-shift-from-solo-working-to-coworking.html My favorites: *Start with easy tasks - *If you're worried about being distracted, at first just take along some routine work that doesn't require massive concentration. It's the ideal time to do that computer housekeeping you've been meaning to get round to, or research to keep up with your industry. You will adapt to being surrounded by activity and gradually be able to introduce jobs needing more application. *Chat a bit - *Don't feel guilty about spending time chatting and view it instead as relationship building. You'll be amazed how much information and advice emerges from these casual exchanges and they can give you enough inspiration to last the rest of the week. And you never know who might be a potential partner - one of your coworkers might be actively looking for just your skills. -Alex /ah indyhall.org coworking in philadelphia -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Coworking group. [Coworking] A win for opensource/crowdsource and coworking
Hi Coworking Friends, One of the things I love about running a coworking space is witnessing the relationship building and the ways that people reach out to each other for help with their businesses. Today alone we have had two separate companies reach out via our list serve to get the needed likes on their Facebook pages to reach vanity URL status. Both instances resulted in rapid success. Our members are constantly collaborating and building better things for it. I specifically wanted to share a recent success of one of our members. Orange22 decided to crowdsource their funding for a new design on Kickstarter and has not only reached over 60% of their goal they are also helping to spread the idea of crowdsourced funding with the rest of the world. Here's a press release they recently sent out. And if you are into minimalist design check out their Kickstarter page :) http://www.prweb.com/releases/2011/8/prweb8691453.htm Best, ~ iris @iriskavanagh nextspace.us -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Coworking group. This will give consistent quality and sound on both sides of the conversation. The way to make something like this sustainable is to: - Keep the technical production simple and consistent - Keep the format simple and book the speakers in advance - Define topics for each segment if possible Alex, would you be interested in recording one more session to introduce the idea that the podcast is going to start featuring people from around the coworking community? [Coworking] Re: Helping Coworking Move Forward - A Weekend Retreat in October
Totally agree Veel! Thanks Alex for clarifying and I hope you can make it out to our big one year anniversary party on Friday. Cheers, Anne On Aug 2, 2:51 pm, Alex Hillman dangerouslyawes...@gmail.com wrote: Mika, This is awesome. I visited Israel a couple of years back and realized how prime Israel is for coworking. The Kibbutz model as a community workspace is remarkable, and coworking feels like an updated version of something already native to Israeli culture. I'd love to talk more about this, just out of my own personal interest. We don't currently have plans to ustream the event, but that's mostly because we haven't talked about it very much. I don't think its so much a physical/technical limitation as it does change the attention of the participants. If we can figure out a good way to do it and keep everyone focused, I'd be game. Regarding international events: I'm going to be at the Coworking Europe conference in November, in Berlin -http://coworkingeu.wordpress.com. This is the 2nd event they've done, and while last year was international attendance, I believe that the focus is on European countries. Someone who attended last year would be better to speak to that than me. I'm pretty pumped to visit Berlin myself. -Alex /ah indyhall.org coworking in philadelphia On Tue, Aug 2, 2011 at 2:37 PM, mika josting mikajost...@gmail.com wrote: Hi Guys , This is the first time I am writing to this group and very excited! We have been thinking for a long time that there should be an opportunity for people who invest a great deal of time into not just their individual spaces, but helping coworking as a movement and a community advance. At the prompt of Jerome, we decided to take a weekend at the beginning of October and convene in LA to get beyond talking shop and look for opportunities to advance the movement. This working group was decided to keep small - we know how quickly large group discussions can get, especially with all of the varying opinions. In the interest of keeping a weekend productive, we decided to designate time for a small working group, representative of the coworking community, to start sifting through some of the more challenging topics. Our initial registration is limited to *only 30 people*, but there are a few caveats. In order to participate in this weekend, we are asking that: 1. You have owned or managed your coworking space for a minimum of one year by October 1, 2011 2. You are eager walk away from the weekend with some homework to help bring the weekend back to the entire coworking community No more than 2 individuals from one particular space (or network of spaces) may register, we want a broad spectrum of representation in our limited attendance numbers. *These conversations are NOT happening behind closed doors* - this working group is going to help provide some structure for ongoing public conversations, here on the list and at other events, to be more productive. We want everybody to get more out of ALL discussions, so we'll be sharing as much as possible from the weekend. *This is not a replacement for the SXSW coworking unconference, or any other coworking events throughout the year.* Our hope is for this more focused event to be complimentary, and provide information to help those larger events be better and more effective. Also, If there are topics that you'd like to inspire conversations regardless of your ability to attend, please share them here: https://indyhall.wufoo.com/forms/i-have-an-idea-for-discussion/ Jerome is generously donating room at Blankspaces in Santa Monica, and the $100 fee covers food and snacks while we're working as well as some basic working supplies. Everything else will be largely BYO (bring your own) and DIY (do it yourself). Particpants are responsible for their own airfare and accommodations, though we're looking into some options that'll let the group reside together and nearby Blankspaces in Santa Monica. I'm looking forward for this opportunity to push the boundaries of what we're used to discussing about coworking, and coming back from LA with TONS

Hey Y'all As many of you know, I have a serial coworking problem. There, I've admitted it. My first coworking foray (VengaWorks) in Boise Idaho suffered an early end of life after launching in what turned out to be a so/so location and incredibly bad market timing (Nov '08). But it was a fail forward experience. The lessons learned from our operational experience with VengaWorks were the inspiration for LiquidSpace. We were thrilled to launch a major new LiquidSpacehttp://www.liquidspace.comrelease today with a slew of features inspired by direct input from our coworking friends (thank you - you know who you are - please keep challenging us). One new feature in particular that I wanted this group to hear about directly, is the ability to self administer your basic listing in LiquidSpace. Follow this linkhttps://www.liquidspaceapp.com/venuelisting/createand in a few minutes your space can be live in the LiquidSpace mobile and web app. More great stuff coming. ...oh and by the way, we are diving back into the Cowork (just can't get it out of our system). Our engineering team in Minneapolis has launched AnoCo, a terrific new cowork space in Anoka Minnesota (the self proclaimed Halloween capital of the world). Book a visit through LiquidSpace and come hang with us. Thanks Mark mark@liquidspace -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Coworking group.
