[Coworking] Coworking in Exurb -- TechSandBox in MetroWest MA
We have opened a large innovation center with coworking space in BostonMetroWest. This means we're about 25 miles from the actual city where coworking isn't as understood or popular. Any other out there in a similar situation? Mostly middle-to-upper class professionals with a heavy bent on technology, life sciences and medical people. Love to hear your challenges! [Coworking] Re: Coworking arrives in Sydney, Australia
We are just starting one up in CrowsNest, lets stay in touch. We would like to see your business one day. On Monday, 22 February 2010 17:55:48 UTC+11, andrew@co-worka wrote: Wow, we're nearly there. Its been a huge effort by lots of people over here in Australia to open the first coworking space in Sydney called CO-WORKA. Big thank you to all those people out there who have given their time and hard graft to get us to the point we're now at. Crazy journey from driving enormous trucks though Sydney full of furniture, to the day we turned on our AC to find it sounded like a 400 pneumatic drills. Don't ask! We got through it though and are having our Launch Night Party on Friday 5th March and we open our doors on the Monday. Goodbye Hibernation, Hello Collaboration!! Re: [Coworking] Re: Pausing membership?
Ramon, We have already developed software for running coworking spaces. We're using it for our 4 spaces and already have several other companies using it. (We're told it's the most robust available!) Putting an account on hold is a simple matter of just entering a note and setting the Next Bill Date, which makes the billing automatic. It also sweeps any other charges sitting out there. Of course, we find that most people aren't sure when they want to restart, so we just make their account inactive and reactivate when they come back. Let me know if you want a demo of DeskWorks! We have had it since the very begining and it does add quite some administrative burden, plus a drop of about 15 members in July/August. We are developing our own software to manage the coworking space and right now users just cancel and don't ask for their deposit back. In the ToDo for the developer is exactly what you ask for, a button to pause membership. The advantage for us is that we will know when they are coming back without guessing. We get a percentage who are between jobs, or just moved to Portland and are looking for jobs. And for more than 2 years? We've had 16 people stay members for the past 2 years, out of 50 members currently. What are the main reasons people stop being members? Ours is members travel to another city, and after that, the top reason is getting a job at another company. [Coworking] Investors - where did you find yours?
Hi all! I'm hard at work trying to find investors to make our NYC upper west side coworking space a reality. I'm wondering what the trend has been regarding fundraising and where I should focus my substantial but still limited energy. So far seem I've found people who are really interested but have no real money or people potentially interest and have money but so far haven't drunk the coworking coolaid. There seems to be quite a few routes to take: 1) Self-funding 2) Angels 3) Real estate investors 4) General/tech investors 5) Crowdfunding 6) Friends and family 7) Partnership with existing coworking owners 8) Others? What has been most successful for you and what hasn't been? Thanks in advance! THANKS! Re: [Coworking] Investors - where did you find yours?
Right on, Sharon! You're going to find that many investors aren't going to understand this model. If they're real estate investors, they will muddy your business model. If they're startup investors, they'll be looking for significant returns. At this point, you have two groups of people to convince: members and investors. That's 2x the work...which is a big part of why I advocate for a different approach: http://dangerouslyawesome.com/2011/09/how-to-fund-your-coworking-space/ Good luck! -Alex -- /ah indyhall.org coworking in philadelphia On Tue, Oct 1, 2013 at 2:46 PM, Sharon Schanzer sha...@rldgroup.com wrote: Hi all! [Coworking] Re: Pausing membership?
This is very interesting to me too. We're heading into the spring/summer months in Australia and it will be interesting to see the uptake (or lack thereof) of memberships. Looking forward to seeing your cancellation reasons, Alex.
