Re: [Coworking] Former Member/"Graduate" Membership?

2015-11-16 Thread Alex Hillman
We launched a membership like this a little over a year ago - nearly 10% of
our members (and growing) are now on our community membership. It's a mix
of people who have full time jobs and aspire to do their own thing, and
people who have graduated and want to stay active in the community. It's
helped a ton with retention, as well as showing people that you don't need
to wait until you need a desk to join Indy Hall.

I wrote a bit more about how we came up with this membership and how we've
communicated it here:

Did a quick search and didn't find any discussions on this but please share
a link if there is already one. We have thrown around the idea of launching
a former member package that allows people to still access the community
and share their experiences (think mentor network), receive same access to
events, discounts on bookings, etc. Wondering if we would make it exclusive
to former members or welcome non-members who just want access too. Has
anyone tried something like this? If yes, how did you structure it?

[Coworking] Children in a coworking space

2015-11-16 Thread Kate Kirwin
Hey everyone!

Just wondering what everyone's policies are on kids? It hasn't been an
issue before but recently we have had people come in for events and leave
their 4/5 year old unattended in the space.

I'm torn because I know its difficult for single mother entrepreneurs to
find childcare (its expensive and its inconvenient) but at the same time a)
an unattended child can easily hurt themselves on tables/running into
things, cords, heavy doors b) a lot of members have their expensive tech on
their desks which easily break if knocked over and c) they are often loud
and disruptive. In addition to that, one of the events involved 100+ people
and alcohol, which is a big risk area for a small kid.

We don't have a dedicated area for children, and as far as I know there is
nowhere around here for daycare.

How do we stop kids coming (and how do we manage it when they are already
here)?

I'd love to know everyone elses policies on this!

Kate

[Coworking] Re: iPad Receptionist

2015-11-16 Thread Adrian Palacios
Hi Todd,

If you are using Nexudus, you can use the iPad app which comes with
it:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/nexudus-spaces-check-in-for/id933010341?mt=8.
Not as feature-full, but it will let you collect visitor information, add
it to your subscriber list or MailChimp campaigns and pull visitor reports
showing you when and how many times each visitor was in the space.

You can also use it to check members in and out, let visitors browse the
member directory and message them from within the app to let them know they
are at the front desk.

[Coworking] Hey Mr (and Ms) DJ!

2015-11-16 Thread M Goldman
I wanted to put this question out to the brain trust.

Anybody inspired to share your kickest-butt coworking playlists? There have
been threads about what music services people use (Spotify, Rdio, etc.),
but I haven't seen anything about exactly *what* we're listening to.

I know that work music taste is very personal, and sound levels need to be
low so as not to overwhelm. There are tons of pumped up workout playlists
online, but I haven't seen as much for "brain work" workouts. This seems
like the perfect curatorial job to crowdsource! What the best site for
playlist sharing these days? And what's your favorite playlist, either for
headphone use or room-wide?

This is for a new micro coworking experiment in Brookline, MA that we're
calling WorkShop. I'm working on this alongside Lisa Wasserman Sivan, an
architectural and interior designer (and long-time coworking enthusiast)
who has created a fantastic space within an amazing historic building here.
Lisa is connected to tons of independent professionals in town who have
been waiting for a place to work within walking distance of home. We'll see
where the wind takes us!

[Coworking] Re: Slack for Coworking

2015-11-16 Thread Brian Crotty
We at have a space co-up.de that spans two floors, so for us Slack serves
as a way to to keep the communication stream flowing between the two
floors. We also have a few integrations that work with Cobot.me. First we
use Cobot's add-on to automatically invite new members to our slack channel
so that it isn't a second process. Second, we give a little questionaire
(including favorite funny gif) to our new members and that information is
then funneled onto the Slack channel. This gives an immediate welcome and
entry for new members coming into the space.
