Re: [Coworking] Business Insurance

2017-05-03 Thread julie
Thank you for the reply Alex. Your response highlights that we have an
insurance agent just not getting the business model. We were advised to
set up our agreement with members, as opposed to tenants. But our agent is
viewing them as tenants. Time to go back to the agent

thanks, Julie

[Coworking] Thanks for 8 years!

2017-05-03 Thread Scott Tillitt / BEAHIVE
Fellow coworkers…

We’ve made it 8 years, despite (or because of) launching in the depths of the
recession.

Apparently we’re an anomaly. BEAHIVE was founded in May 2009 in a town of
15,000 people. Only 9% of spaces today are in areas with less than 20,000
people — of those, only 20% are profitable (according to the Global Coworking
Survey).

I imagine it was way less back then.

I owe much of our ongoing success to this group, particularly pioneers like
Alex Hillman and Tony Bacigalupo, who so generously share their struggles,
success and hard-earned insights with the rest of us.

A lot has changed over these 8 years, so I wrote a little then and now
comparison. And a hint at what’s to come. (We’re just getting started.)

http://beahivebzzz.com/blog/2017/04/lot-changed-8-years/

It’s a short 2-minute read.

Thanks for all you do.

scott.

Re: [Coworking] Unisex Toilets

2017-05-03 Thread Craig Baute - Creative Density Coworking
The ones in Denver are large bathrooms with 6 stalls or so.

I think it just catches a lot of people off guard. The community manager
says the main thing is about it being odd after people have a meeting and
they usually go separate ways if they are the opposite sex and then they
surprise each other in the bathroom. This same surprise can happen right
before a meeting. These accounts are usually from people visiting and not
working there so it might be something people get over.

Re: [Coworking] Unisex Toilets

2017-05-03 Thread Jacob Sayles
I think unisex toilets are important. In many subtle ways it reinforces
the sense that we are all in this together which is a good foundation to
build on. The presence of a few grumbles does not mean any idea is a bad
idea and even further from the truth that "the other way" is the right way.

That's unusual for coworking, and as you've found a pretty obvious case
where it doesn't make sense, you'll need someone who understands coworking
and knows how to communicate with an underwriter. My agent explained to me

that many insurance agents (and their underwriters) treat members as
tenants rather than organizational members, so you end up with weird
situations like this. You need someone who is going to really understand
your environment and create a policy for it.

Naturally, this is also going to vary a bit from region to region, but
generally speaking you're gonna want a policy that doesn't create more
hoops for your members to jump through.
