Re: [CREATE] Montréal-Python graphics special on Monday 2011-05-09

2011-04-29 Thread a.l.e

hi

Montréal-Python, our local user group, would love to take the
opportunity that we will have many expect graphics hackers in town to
organize a meeting on the theme of graphics with Python on Monday May
9th, just before the conference.

Our meetings usually attract between 50 and 70 persons and it's a
great opportunity to share deep technical details about you favorite
graphic project with a crowd of passionated pythonistas.

Our plan is to have a short meeting between 6h30PM and 8PM either at a
local university or at a local bar and to have between 4 and 6
lightning talks then to have either 3 presentations of 20 mins or one
longer one of 60 mins. After the presentation, we'll enjoy a few free
beer at Benelux, our favorite brew pub, thanks to our sponsors and to
the fact that this brew pub really loves us.

Anyone going to LGM 2011 who would like to present something?

if nobody has anything better to tell, i can talk about the scribus'
scripter engine... not more than 20 minutes, though!

there won't be any deep technical details but i may be able to show you
a curious way to "abuse" it...

I could also talk about Nodebox and Shoebot, which are some pretty great
tools to generate and manipulate vector graphics with Python. I can
introduce those tools, show some real-world examples, as well as a
bootstrap for people to get started with them.

See www.nodebox.net and www.shoebot.net
(I'm one of the Shoebot devs, btw. I also taught coding to college
design students who never touched programming using those tools, with a
decent measure of success.)

[CREATE] Fedora LGM 2011 Remix

2011-04-29 Thread Pierros Papadeas
Hello all!

We are trying to create a Remix of Fedora (our beloved Linux distro)
bundled with all the tools that will be used during the upcoming LGM.
The purpose of it is to be distributed at LGM 2011 as a reference
point for all participants that they want it and also to be used in
workshops during the event.

Moreover, the assortment of the software/tools that will form it, will
act as a basis on which we are going to reform the Fedora Design Suite
[1] (our design oriented Fedora Spin)

Please go ahead and reply to this message with the name of the
LGM-Design-relevant tool/software that you
use/create/adore/love/wanna-see !

Thanks in advance,

Pierros

At least from Scribus's perspective, I would suggest that it include the
various tools and header files for building svn versions...as the true
libre graphics afficionado would surely wish to do!
