Dear CREATE list followers,

Since today, the semi-official "LGM 2013 [Fieldnotes]" book can be ordered from:

Amazon España => http://www.amazon.es/dp/2970070669

Amazon France => http://www.amazon.fr/dp/2970070669
(free shipping to France, Monaco, Belgium and Luxembourg)

Amazon Germany => http://www.amazon.de/dp/2970070669
(free shipping to Austria, Belgium, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg,
Netherlands, Switzerland)

Amazon UK => http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/2970070669

Amazon USA => http://www.amazon.com/dp/2970070669

Print it at home => https://github.com/greyscalepress/lgm-2013

What is this?

It's a print edition of the complete LGM program found online at
, with some blank space
for your notes, and some useful maps of Madrid, courtesy
OpenStreetMap. It's in pocket book format, 172 pages, so you can
easily carry it with you during the four days of LGM.
The book design has begun on Sunday 17th March and finished 24 hours later.
It was made with Scribus, and features the libre fonts Chivo, by
Hector Gatti and Igino Marin; Volkhov (by Ivan Petrov and Alexei
Vanyashin); and Karla (by Jonny Pinhorn).
It was produced spontaneously, following the "release early, release
often" dogma, and there will be some mistakes (we apologize for having
misspelt the font "Volkhov" as "Vokhov" on page 171).
The printing is done "on demand" through the Amazon CreateSpace
service. The revenue is kept at zero, the price of the book (EUR 4,40
- 4,76 depending where you order) just covers the printing.

Why?

This book was inspired by James Bridle's publishing experiments (SXSW
2010 [Fieldnotes]), visible at booktwo.org. It's intended to serve as
"a one-time pad", a personal notebook for the duration of LGM.

Manuel Schmalstieg

Hi all,

For the next Libre Graphics Meeting 2013, which will be held in Madrid
from 10th April to 14th April, maybe we will be able to offer
accommodation in a home stay or in a youth hostel.
The places are limited, so each space will be allocated by strict order
of application.

Ale and Femke, thanks for the feedback!

I hope the book will be useful indeed.
Waiting impatiently for getting my copies next week.

Monica, there's already a package of 10 pieces on the way to Medialab
Prado. It should arrive on 26th March, let me know when you get them.

Cheers,
Manuel

I like the design, like the choices for typefaces.

I think the next step, next phase for this kind of thing, and something
that would require either a new tool or modifications to existing ones,
is something like an eBook format, where you can add notes to pages,
incorporate your own images, etc. The idea would be to have something
you can work with from a tablet.

I went to a medical meeting recently, and although there was a PDF
available for download, and I knew there was going to be a print version
at the meeting (for free), there was much more information and pages
than I needed, so I redid the PDF as an ebook, chopping out the 75 to
80% that I didn't want. What it lacked, of course, was the ability to
add notes afterward.
