Note that AresEd is still in heavy development. So it is far from complete.
But I have used it to make
small and limited games already.

2013-05-03 Thread Jim Sager
Jorrit,

I watched one of your youtube videos on Ares.  It looks pretty good.  I think
I'm going to compile and play with Ares for a bit.  I'll poke around in it a
bit and see what I can accomplish.  It couldn't hurt to make a map with it, and
then see if I can get my game working with it.

Thanks everyone for advice,

I can plan my next moves better,
Jim

What maybe might be a better use of my time could be:

I can't help much on the art questions but getting a solid base working first
is always a better way to possibly
attract artists.

About the editor. Isn't this what Ares is about? Or even cseditor. I would not
try to reinvent the wheel since
we have now at least two active CS editors already. Ares is of course a bit
special as it requires CEL and is
tied to a specific format but CSeditor should be usable and extensible.

Thank you everyone for replying.  This Blendswap.com looks like what I could
use.  Maybe it is time to open this project and get back to work.

Isn't it possible to find some free ones on the net, at least to start
with?

Eg at http://www.blendswap.com/search?term=spaceship or
http://opengameart.org/

Re: [CsMain] (CrystalFighter) Could use some advice on my game from the community.

2013-05-03 Thread Sebastian Hoffmann
As your fighters are human, you might like to take a look at and improve
upon sueastsides MakeHuman exporter:
http://www.crystalspace3d.org/blog/sueastside/2009/12/21/makehuman2animesh
As far as I can see, in its current state it only exports model
information, not textures, skeletons or animations, but it's a start.

Also I've been looking at your website and found neither a call for artists
nor instructions on how to create assets for your game (admittedly, I
didn't take a hard look, but most potential artists probably wouldn't do
that either before deciding to move on), so lowering the entry bar on that
may help.

And finally there is http://www.blenderartists.org/forum/ where you can
look for both volunteer and paid work.
