Re: [css-d] Using an Image as Home (index) page

2007-04-20 Thread Kimberly Batteau
Consider using the picture as a background image. I did a similar
thing when building this site:
http://staff.reynolds.edu/mcline/index.html

Two significant considerations:
1. I had to make the image about 22" wide so that it wouldn't repeat
on the larger monitors, and had to construct the content of the image
so that it looked good with either a large or small monitor.

2. Some browsers load the bg image last, and indicate in the status
bar that the page is fully loaded while the bg image is still loading
and unseen.

Re: [css-d] Page Check

2007-10-05 Thread Kimberly Batteau
OS X 10.4.10; Safari 3.0.3; Camino 1.5:
Just basic poking around on the site …
everything looks good with 1 exception:

On the home page in Safari, there is no white space between the portrait and
the body of text, i.e. "This web site is designed serve the Districts …" is
flush left against the portrait.

And … not related to CSS, but the portrait on the home page is not very
crisp (but that may be intentional).

[css-d] Is there a CSS solution for a wide screen monitor?

2007-02-20 Thread Kimberly Batteau
This may be OT; I hope not; I hope there is a CSS solution.

I built this site http://staff.reynolds.edu/mcline/index.html and tested it
using "standard-sized" monitors, perhaps 16 or 17 inch.

My client recently bought a 19" flat screen monitor & everything on this new
monitor is stretched horizontally to make it fit into the full width (which
is actually about 16"). This stretching occurs in IE7, Opera9

Surprisingly, not all of the background image (
http://staff.reynolds.edu/mcline/bgs/trial10.jpg) for the home page is used.
Even though the image is over 16.5 inches wide, the browsers use about
14.3inches of the width and stretch it out to 16".

The best example of the stretching at the bottom of this page
http://staff.reynolds.edu/mcline/pages/myart.html , where the disk should be
circular, but appears to be quite ovate on the wide monitor.

Admittedly, I am not a CSS guru and this site is not a stellar example of
CSS, but is there some to use CSS to compensate for this?

TIA,

Kimberly

Re: [css-d] site check -- kiu-art.com redesign

2005-05-06 Thread Kimberly Batteau
Hi Jennifer,

This is my environment/browser mix:
Macintosh OS X 10.3.7
Camino 2005033112 (v0.8.3), Firefox 1.0.2, iCab 2.9.8, IE 5.2.3
(5815.1), Mozilla 1.7.5, Netscape 7.2 , OmniWeb 5.1.1 Beta 1
(v563.42), Opera 8.0 Build 1945, Safari 1.2.4 (v125.12)

The one page I looked at had no problems except in iCab, which is to
be expected, because iCab usually stumbles on anything more than the
basic CSS rules.

One curious thing: The fish in the lower-right corner - It did not
display in Opera, but everything else in Opera seemed fine.

If you request it, I'll send you screenprints separately.

Re: [css-d] site check -- kiu-art.com redesign

2005-05-06 Thread Kimberly Batteau
My bad - I neglected to test it in IE. I experienced the same feather
issue as Jono. Also, depending on the window width, as many as 5
fishes appear on the right, and under certain circumstances there are
two fishes aligned horizontally.

Again, screenprints if you request them.

Re: [css-d] safari showing a background image

2005-05-09 Thread Kimberly Batteau
Kevin,

I won't speculate why you have the BG image problem, but you have a
larger problem than that. That page consistently crashes NS 7.2 on the
Macintosh. A few other petty things, but here's what I found:

NS – Consistently crashes the browser
Safari, Omniweb – BG extends to right
Camino, Firefox – Extraneous clutter over the rightmost cyclist in the heading

Screenprints upon request.

Re: [css-d] Background Image Printing

2005-05-20 Thread Kimberly Batteau
I haven't documented experiences with printing the bg images, but I
suspect it's being handled the same as when you Save the page in a
browser. As a rule, when the bg is specified within the CSS, it is not
saved. When it is secified in the HTML it is saved. The only exception
I know of is the iCab browser on the Macintosh.
