CTAN Update: oberdiek bundle

2007-10-24 Thread CTAN Announcements
On Wed, 24 Oct 2007 at 08:36 +0200, Heiko Oberdiek submitted a new version
of the

 oberdiek

bundle.

New/updates:

* askinclude v2.0
  * Version 2 of askinclude from Pablo Straub.

  are required.

* stringenc v1.3
  * \StringEncodingList added.
  * Safer encoding file loading by ensuring all used catcodes.

* TDS:doc/latex/oberdiek/test/
New directory where the test files go into.

Author's name: Toby Cubitt
Location on CTAN: /macros/latex/contrib/cleveref/
Summary description: Automatic cross-reference formatting.
License type: lppl

Announcement text:
--
This version makes customising the reference formats far simpler and
less tedious. It also adds a new conjunction and format part, used in
lists containing just a pair of items. This makes certain frequently
requested comma styles possible. The \label command can now take an
optional argument that overrides the automatically determined reference
style, allowing the format of references to individual labels to be
customised separately if so desired. Finally, this version removes the
need to explicitly pass options to enable support for the hyperref,
ntheorem and amsmath packages. Instead, it enables the support
automatically if these packages are loaded. (As ever, cleveref must be
loaded last to work properly.)

Re: dante.ctan.org upload: arabxetex

2007-11-12 Thread CTAN Announcements
On Thu, 8 Nov 2007, François Charette submitted an update to the

  arabxetex

package.

ArabXeTeX provides a convenient ArabTeX-like user-interface for
typesetting languages using the Arabic script in XeLaTeX, with flexible
access to font features. Input in ArabTeX notation can be set in three
different vocalization modes or in roman transliteration. Direct UTF-8
input is also supported. The parsing and converting of ArabTeX input to
Unicode is done by means of TECkit mappings. Version 1.0 provides support
for Arabic, Maghribi Arabic, Farsi (Persian), Urdu, Sindhi, Kashmiri,
Ottoman Turkish, Kurdish, Jawi (Malay) and Uighur.

The documentation (not yet complete) covers topics such as typesetting the
Holy Quran, typesetting bidirectional critical editions (with ednotes),
and information on various recommended OpenType fonts for the Arabic
script and for transliterating Oriental languages.

Location on CTAN: macros/xetex/latex/arabxetex
License type: lppl

Announcement text:
--
Version 1.1.1 is a bugfix release. No new functionality was added since
version 1.1. A minimal example is now under doc/examples, together with
the more complex demonstration of an Arabic critical edition with ednotes.

CTAN Update: anyfontsize package update for LaTeX

2007-11-22 Thread CTAN Announcements
On Thu, 22 Nov 2007 at 13:09 +0100, Péter Szabó submitted a bugfix to the

CTAN Update: SQLTeX

2007-11-25 Thread CTAN Announcements
On Fri, 23 Nov 2007, Oscar van Eijk submitted an update to the

SQLTeX is a well documented preprocessor to enable the use of SQL
statements in LaTeX. It is a perl script that reads an input file
containing the LaTeX source with SQL commands, and writes a LaTeX file

Announcement text:
--
After 5 years, there's finally a reason to update SQLTeX.

SQLTeX is a well documented preprocessor to enable the use of SQL
statements in LaTeX. It is a perl script that reads an input file
containing the LaTeX source with SQL commands, and writes a LaTeX file
that can be processed with your LaTeX package. The SQL commands will be
replaced by their values. It's possible to select a single field for
substitution substitution in your LaTeX document, or to be used as input
in another SQL command. When an SQL command returns multiple fields and or
rows, the values can only be used for substitution in the document.

New in this version:
 --- Updates are now possible
 --- Support for multiple databases
--- Multiple documents can be created

CTAN package update: CurVe

2007-11-27 Thread CTAN Announcements
A new package has been installed at tug.ctan.org and should soon be at
your favorite mirror.

Name of contribution: CurVe
Author's name: Didier Verna

License type: lppl

Announcement text:
--
I'm happy to annouce the next edition of CurVe, version 1.14.

New in this release:
- an option to reverse-count bibliographic entries
- localization to Polish

CurVe is a class package that hopefully will make your life easier when
you want to write your CV. It provides you with a set of commands to
create rubrics, entries in these rubrics etc. CurVe will then properly
format your CV for you (possibly splitting it onto multiple pages,
repeating the titles etc), which is usually the most painful part of
CV writing. Another nice feature of CurVe is its ability to manage
different CV "flavors" simultaneously. It is in fact often the case
that you want to maintain slightly divergent versions of your CV at
the same time, in order to emphasize on different aspects of your
background. CurVe also comes with support for AUC-TeX.

CTAN Update: Arphic font packages

2007-11-28 Thread CTAN Announcements
On Wed, 28 Nov 2007, Werner Lemberg submitted an update to the

  arphic

package.

These are font bundles for the Chinese Arphic fonts which work with the CJK
package.

Arphic is actually the name of the company that which created the fonts
(and put them under a GPL-like licence).

Location on CTAN: /fonts/arphic
License type: gpl

Announcement text:

The four bundles contain revised versions of the four Arphic fonts bundles
for simplified and traditional Chinese, as used in the CJK package for
LaTeX. It fixes omissions of some vertical glyph representation forms,
improves the TFM metrics (however, the widths stay unchanged), and
provides smaller PFB subfont files due to a newer version of FontForge
used in the conversion process.

CTAN package update: Eplain 3.2 release

2007-11-28 Thread CTAN Announcements
Oleg Katsitadze has provided a package which has been mirrored,
automatically, to CTAN. He writes:

I'm happy to announce a new release of Eplain (3.2), a set of TeX
macros that expands on and extends the definitions in plain TeX in a
"style-neutral" fashion. Eplain's home page is

http://tug.org/eplain

Location on CTAN is

/macros/eplain

The manual is available on-line from Eplain's home, or as a hard-copy
from

http://www.lulu.com/content/113810

(Royalties are donated to the TeX Users Group.)

Here's an excerpt from the NEWS file.

* Fixed a bug which caused silent indexing macros to output spurious
  space in vertical mode.
* Added a switch to disable index file input/output.
* Fixed xref and bibliography label definition macros so that reading
in a .aux file with a large number of label definitions does not
  overflow the save stack.
* Fixed double-column macros -- they were occasionally losing material
and producing columns too high to fit on a page. Also improved
appearance of the last column, which often came out spaced out.

I've updated the catalogue, and the new version should be widely
available by now. Users may view the catalogue entry at
  http://mirror.ctan.org/help/Catalogue/entries/eplain.html

Name of contribution: dot2tex
Author's name: Kjell Magne Fauske
Location on CTAN: /graphics/dot2tex/
Summary description: Convert graphs generated by Graphviz to LaTeX
  friendly formats
License type: dfsg

Announcement text:
--
Dot2tex is a tool for converting graphs rendered by Graphviz to formats
that can be used with LaTeX.

The purpose of dot2tex is to give graphs generated by Graphviz a more
LaTeX friendly look and feel. This is accomplished by converting xdot
output from Graphviz to a series of TikZ and PGF, or PSTricks commands.
This approach allows:

   * Typesetting labels with LaTeX, allowing mathematical notation.
   * Using native PSTricks and PGF/TikZ commands for drawing arrows.
   * Using backend specific styles to customize the output

New in version 2.7.0 is the --codeonly option for tighter integration
with the dot2texi.sty LaTeX package

Location on CTAN: /macros/latex/contrib/dot2texi
Summary description: Create graphs within LaTeX using Graphviz and the

Announcement text:

The dot2texi package allows you to embed graphs in the DOT graph
description language in your LaTeX documents. The dot2tex[1] tool is
used to invoke Graphviz[2] for graph layout, and to transform the output
from Graphviz to LaTeX code. The generated code relies on the TikZ and
PGF package or the PSTricks package. The process is automated if shell
escape is enabled.

New in version 2.0:

- Improved platform detection. Windows users no longer need to specify the
  miktex option.
- Added forceshell package option.
- Added codeonly, styleonly and autosize environment options.

Summary description: Define LaTeX macros in terms of Perl code
License type: lppl

Announcement text:

PerlTeX is a combination Perl script (perltex.pl) and LaTeX2e style
file (perltex.sty) that, together, give the user the ability to define
LaTeX macros in terms of Perl code. Once defined, a Perl macro becomes
indistinguishable from any other LaTeX macro. PerlTeX thereby combines
LaTeX's typesetting power with Perl's programmability.

 * Fix problem with [EMAIL PROTECTED] and [EMAIL PROTECTED] which had to be

which occured when operators had been defined with
   \DeclareMathOperator.

 * Support for mathpazo and mathptmx added.

 * Source code comments by Michael J. Downes added.

Changes in breqn

 * Fixed catcode settings and package loading of flexisym.

 * Cleaned up some parts of the code.

 * Source code comments by Michael J. Downes added.

Changes in mathstyle
===

 * Documentation written (original sources unfortunately lost).

 * Use [EMAIL PROTECTED] from breqn.

 * New command \currentmathstyle + example of usage

A special note on the source code comments:

The original sources of breqn and related files exist in a non-dtx
format devised by Michael Downes. Lars Madsen has kindly written a
Perl script for transforming the original source files into
near-perfect dtx state, requiring only very little hand tuning.
Without his help it would have been nigh impossible to
incorporate the original sources with Michael's comments. A big, big

Just like sed is a stream editor, ted is a token list editor. Actually, it is
not as powerfull as sed, but its main feature is that it really works with
tokens, not only characters.

The ted package provides two user macros: \Substitute and \ShowTokens. The
first one is maybe the most useful: it performs substitutions in token
lists (even inside braces). The second displays each token of the list
(one per line) with its catcode (in the list, not just the current one),
and can be useful for debugging or for TeX learners.

The ted package is designed to work well even if strange tokens (that is,
unusual (charcode, catcode) pairs or tokens with a confusing meaning)
occur in the list.

are guaranteed to be available in every TeX distribution. Others
require font files that come with some, but not all, TeX
distributions. The rest require font files that must be downloaded
explicitly from CTAN (http://www.ctan.org) and installed. The
Comprehensive LaTeX Symbols List currently showcases symbols from 111
separate typefaces.

Weighing in at 4948 symbols, this version of the symbol list documents
over 1600 more symbols than the previous (September 2005) version.

CTAN Update: The mh bundle

2007-12-27 Thread CTAN Announcements
On Thu, 27 Dec 2007, Morten Høgholm submitted an update to the

  mh

bundle.

The mh bundle is a series of packages designed to enhance the appearance
of documents containing a lot of math. The main backbone is amsmath, so
those unfamiliar with this required part of the LaTeX system will probably
not find the packages very useful. Component parts of the bundle are
empheq, flexisym, mathtools, mhsetup, breqn and mathstyle; an obsolete
version of empheq (empheq07) is also maintained with the package, for the
benefit of older documents.

Location on CTAN: /macros/latex/contrib/mh
Summary description: breqn v0.97a, flexisym v0.96, mathstyle v0.84, technotes
License type: lppl

Announcement text:
--
breqn-technotes.tex

 * New document containing technical notes on breqn.

 * First inclusion is the text from eqbreaks.pdf (original source was
lost). eqbreaks.pdf is now removed from the distribution (name was
   misleading anyway).

Changes in breqn

 * Fixed bug with after environment punctuation. No default action was
specified if no punctuation or space was found such as could occur
if you had a percent sign after the dmath environment.

 * Spacing above a display preceeded by a blank line is now
   \abovedisplayskip.

 * New option shortskiplimit= to control when to use
   \abovedisplayshortskip or \abovedisplayskip.

 * Spacing above dgroup environment fixed.

 * Tag placement for single-line equations now always align baselines
of tag and equation. In all previous versions, C tag placement
meant vertically center, even for single-line equations.

 * Left tag vertical positioning fixed (bug introduced in breqn
   v0.96).

 * debug option gone, available as trace option during docstrip.

Changes in mathstyle
===

 * Added option mathactivechars.

Changes in flexisym
===

 * Fix option handling.

 * Make flexisym load cmbase by default. Additional options now just
   overwrite old definitions.

CTAN package update: lshort v4.23

2008-01-03 Thread CTAN Announcements
Tobi Oetiker has uploaded the latest version of his "short introduction
to LaTeX 2e", and I've installed it as requested, and updated the
catalogue repository.

This new version of the introduction features a rework of the
mathematics chapter (done by Lan Thuy Pham), which (among other things)
assumes amsmath is loaded, in all its advice.

Thanks Tobi (and Pham) for the update.

Users may browse the catalogue entry (for what it's worth) at
  http://mirror.ctan.org/help/Catalogue/entries/lshort-english.html
or browse the package directory at
  http://mirror.ctan.org/info/lshort/english/
Those who only want the document itself may retrieve
  http://mirror.ctan.org/info/lshort/english/lshort.pdf

The catalogue entry will be updated overnight, the package itself
already being on its way around the world.
