Judge Rules Against Homeland Security Department
Associated Press
Thursday, January 02, 2003

WASHINGTON -- The Office of Homeland Security lost the first round in a
legal fight to keep its activities secret as a federal judge ruled it
will have to answer questions about its power over other federal
agencies.

U.S. District Court Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly ordered the office to
prove it has no authority other than helping and advising President Bush
if it wants to dismiss a lawsuit seeking access to its records.

The ruling last week favored the Washington-based Electronic Privacy
Information Center, which is trying to get Homeland Security records on
proposals for a national driver's license and for a "trusted flyer"
program that relies on biometric information to identify airline
passengers.

Kollar-Kotelly said the center "may inquire into the nature of the
authority delegated to (the Office of Homeland Security) to determine
whether or not it possesses independent authority." David Sobel,
attorney for the privacy group, called the ruling an intermediate
victory over Homeland Security Director Tom Ridge.

"This is about opening a window into the activities of what has been,
until now, a very secretive entity," Sobel said.

Homeland Security tried to get the lawsuit dismissed, claiming it
doesn't have to release records because it's not an agency. The privacy
group said it didn't have enough information to prove otherwise and
asked for permission to find out how the office exercises its authority.

The privacy group has until Feb. 24 to find out whether other agencies
receive instructions or directions from Homeland Security or if they
have to get the office's approval for policies or activities.

Homeland Security spokesman Brian Roehrkasse said the office is
reviewing the opinion and working with the Justice Department to figure
out what to do next.

The office, created by President Bush after the Sept. 11 terrorist
attacks, has consistently denied that it's an agency. Earlier this year,
Ridge refused to testify before Congress about the office's budget on
the grounds that he merely advises President Bush.

Homeland Security will no longer be able to make that argument when it
becomes a new federal department on Jan. 24.

Sobel said Homeland Security's increased power and reach will warrant
even closer public oversight.

The new department, for example, will receive information from the FBI,
which has expanded powers under the USA Patriot Act, passed in response
to the Sept. 11 terror attacks, Sobel said.

"We're already seeing an effort on the part of all the separate entities
to really close the door on any scrutiny," he said.

Now Corporations Claim The "Right To Lie"
by Thom Hartmann
Published on Wednesday, January 1, 2003 by CommonDreams.org
http://commondreams.org/views03/0101-07.htm

While Nike was conducting a huge and expensive PR blitz to tell people
that it had cleaned up its subcontractors' sweatshop labor practices, an
alert consumer advocate and activist in California named Marc Kasky
caught them in what he alleges are a number of specific deceptions.
Citing a California law that forbids corporations from intentionally
deceiving people in their commercial statements, Kasky sued the
multi-billion-dollar corporation.

Instead of refuting Kasky's charge by proving in court that they didn't
lie, however, Nike instead chose to argue that corporations should enjoy
the same "free speech" right to deceive that individual human citizens
have in their personal lives. If people have the constitutionally
protected right to say, "The check is in the mail," or, "That looks
great on you," then, Nike's reasoning goes, a corporation should have
the same right to say whatever they want in their corporate PR
campaigns.

They took this argument all the way to the California Supreme Court,
where they lost. The next stop may be the U.S. Supreme Court in early
January, and the battle lines are already forming.

For example, in a column in the New York Times supporting Nike's
position, Bob Herbert wrote, "In a real democracy, even the people you
disagree with get to have their say."

True enough.

But Nike isn't a person - it's a corporation. And it's not their "say"
they're asking for: it's the right to deceive people.

Corporations are created by humans to further the goal of making money.
As Buckminster Fuller said in his brilliant essay The Grunch of Giants,
"Corporations are neither physical nor metaphysical phenomena. They are
socioeconomic ploys - legally enacted game-playing..."

Corporations are non-living, non-breathing, legal fictions. They feel no
pain. They don't need clean water to drink, fresh air to breathe, or
healthy food to consume. They can live forever. They can't be put in
prison. They can change their identity or appearance in a day, change
their citizenship in an hour, rip off parts of themselves and create
entirely new entities. Some have compared corporations with robots, in
that they are human creations that can outlive individual humans,
performing their assigned tasks forever.

Isaac Asimov, when considering a world where robots had become as
functional, intelligent, and more powerful than their human creators,
posited three fundamental laws that would determine the behavior of such
potentially dangerous human-made creations. His Three Laws of Robotics
stipulated that non-living human creations must obey humans yet never
behave in a way that would harm humans.

Asimov's thinking wasn't altogether original: Thomas Jefferson and James
Madison beat him to it by about 200 years.

Jefferson and Madison proposed an 11th Amendment to the Constitution
that would "ban monopolies in commerce," making it illegal for
corporations to own other corporations, banning them from giving money
to politicians or trying to influence elections in any way, restricting
corporations to a single business purpose, limiting the lifetime of a
corporation to something roughly similar to that of productive humans
(20 to 40 years back then), and requiring that the first purpose for
which all corporations were created be "to serve the public good."

The amendment didn't pass because many argued it was unnecessary:
Virtually all states already had such laws on the books from the
founding of this nation until the Age of the Robber Barons.

Wisconsin, for example, had a law that stated: "No corporation doing
business in this state shall pay or contribute, or offer consent or
agree to pay or contribute, directly or indirectly, any money, property,
free service of its officers or employees or thing of value to any
political party, organization, committee or individual for any political
purpose whatsoever, or for the purpose of influencing legislation of any
kind, or to promote or defeat the candidacy of any person for
nomination, appointment or election to any political office." The
penalty for any corporate official violating that law and getting cozy
with politicians on behalf of a corporation was five years in prison and
a substantial fine.

Like Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics, these laws prevented corporations
from harming humans, while still allowing people to create their robots
(corporations) and use them to make money. Everybody won. Prior to 1886,
corporations were referred to in US law as "artificial persons," similar
to the way Star Trek portrays the human-looking robot named Data.

But after the Civil War, things began to change. In the last year of the
war, on November 21, 1864, President Abraham Lincoln looked back on the
growing power of the war-enriched corporations, and wrote the following
thoughtful letter to his f

Subject:[SO] The Dulce Greys

PROBING DEEPER INTO THE DULCE 'ENIGMA'

The following information on subsurface anomalies and the Dulce base was
compiled by researcher and explorer John Rhodes:

Legends from different parts of the globe all tell of an underworld inhabited
by mystical beings of varied forms. I believe that the reptilian [race] still
resides to this day underground. Hidden away in the dark crevices of the
Earth and in the depths of the oceans. The evidence supporting this
proclamation is also available through recent reports and historical
documentation...

I the early 1960's, a subterranean nuclear blast occurred about 30 miles
southwest of Dulce, New Mexico right off U.S. 64. This nuclear blast was
conducted under the umbrella of project Plowshare, and was named Gassbuggy.
It has recently been alleged that this particular subsurface nuclear blast
was used to create a hollowed out chute or chimney for development of a
substation for a super-secret tunnel system attached to an underground black
book project base.

According to the infamous Thomas Castello -- a former Dulce base security
technician -- this particular under-world city is a highly secret base
operated by humans as well as reptilian aliens and their worker cast, the
commonly encountered grays. It is here, apparently, that a multitude of
experimentation projects are carried out. Primarily genetic experiments on
kidnapped men, women, and children.

There are a myriad of other specialty science projects taking place at the
Dulce base including, but not limited to: Atomic manipulation, cloning,
studies of the human aura, advanced mind control applications, animal/human
crossbreeding, visual and audio wiretapping, the list goes on...

Dulce, New Mexico is a strange place indeed. It's a sleepy little town
perched upon the Archuletta Mesa, just south of the Colorado border in
northern New Mexico.

Tourists passing through sometimes see little more life in the town other
than that of a scruffy dog lazily spread out along side of the dirt road.
Some claim that upon entering the town, black vehicles with heavily tinted
windows tailgate them until they are outside the city limits and "heading out
of Dodge"!...

In addition, several other sources, who wish to remain nameless, reported
oddities in their work with operation 'Plowshare' during the 1960's. The
project was created under the guise of the use of atomic bombs during
peacetime, and forged ahead under the umbrella of "Natural Gas Exploration".
In fact, several of these multi-kiloton blasts were used as a rapid way of
developing huge sub-surface chambers for facility development. It is reported
that the technology to clean radiation is available and already in use for
such projects.

When I lectured on Friday, August 13th of 1993 in Las Vegas, I made public,
for the first time ever, the floor plans to levels one and six of the Dulce
Base. These floor plans were reproduced from the originals that were handed
to Thomas Castello's friend. This friend did not previously release the floor
plans because they were being used as a verification device to the claims of
abductees that say they were there. To date, the originals have verified and
disproved many stories circulating the field of ufology. This friend of
Thomas Castello's, however, believes that it is time to begin [to] reveal the
missing pieces...

The Dulce base floorplan was illustrated as per the originals by Thomas
Castello and I released it... during my lecture in Las Vegas, Nevada. Its
layout, when inspected carefully, appears to be extremely strategically
planned.

>From a vertical viewpoint, it resembles a wheel with a central hub and
corridors radiating outwards like spokes. This 'hub' is the focal point of
the entire base. It is surrounded by central security and extends through all
levels of the base.

I believe this core to be the Achilles heal of the entire facility. It
probably contains fiber optic communications and power lines. This would
justify its highly guarded and central location as well as explain its
vertical continuation through all levels. With all communication lines and
power lines focused towards the hub, it is possible that any one level could
be completely "locked down" by its own security or the security hubs from
either above or below its own level. This would provide maximum control over
the entire facility.

The 'spokes' or corridors radiating away from the central hub, lead to
numerous other labs in five different directions. Connect the spokes and a
pentagon is revealed in its design. From above, this base resembles the
layout of the Pentagon in Washington D.C. complete with halls, walls and
military insignias! Since we do not have the exact heading on its corridors,
magnetic alignments

Rocket Fuel Toxic Found in Lettuce

OAKLAND, California, January 2, 2003 (ENS) - Perchlorate, an ingredient in
rocket fuel which impairs the thyroid's ability to take up iodide and produce
hormones, has contaminated almost 300 drinking water sources and farm wells
in California and sources in at least 15 other states. This new information
is found in test data and documents obtained by Environmental Working Group
(EWG), a non-profit environmental research organization with offices in
Oakland and Washington, DC.

Contamination has affected the Colorado River from near Las Vegas to the
Mexican border. The river is the primary or sole source of irrigation water
for farms in California, Arizona and Nevada that grow the great majority of
the lettuce sold in the U.S. during the winter.

Eating lettuce or other vegetables grown in fields irrigated by the Colorado
River may expose consumers to a larger dose of toxic rocket fuel than is
considered safe by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Test results never before made public, obtained by EWG, show that leafy
vegetables grown with contaminated irrigation water take up, store and
concentrate potentially harmful levels of perchlorate.

Sworn depositions and other courtroom documents show that the giant aerospace
and defense contractor Lockheed Martin, a major user of perchlorate, knew as
early as 1997 that vegetables stored high concentrations of the chemical, but
said nothing to the EPA or California state health officials.

EWG says that "Lockheed Martin is responsible for polluting dozens of water
supplies in the Redlands area of San Bernardino County, California with high
levels of perchlorate and other chemicals."

The company has made no comment on these allegations.

A class action lawsuit has been brought against the company by more than 800
residents of the area, who blame contaminated drinking water for cancer and
other health problems. Farms in the area are not irrigated by the Colorado
River, but draw from wells that have been contaminated by perchlorate plumes
from now abandoned Lockheed facilities.

Lawyers at Engstrom, Lipscomb and Lack in Los Angeles, who represent the
Redlands residents suing Lockheed Martin, learned that the company had
earlier been in negotiation with Lucky Farms, a San Bernardino grower of
lettuce and other vegetables, over contamination of the farm's water supply.
The lawyers subpoenaed all materials from the negotiations, and have
discovered that Lockheed was sitting on evidence of vegetables' uptake and
concentration of perchlorate.

The subpoenaed documents, obtained by EWG from lawyers at Engstrom, Lipscomb
and Lack, showed that in late 1997 and early 1998, Lucky Farms conducted a
series of tests on its produce to see if they were contaminated with
perchlorate. These tests were conducted on four samples of "leafy vegetables"
and four samples of some kind of "vegetable matter" which was not identified.

Overall, the vegetables were found to have an average of more than 2,600
micrograms of perchlorate per kilogram - thousands of times higher than what
the EPA considers to be a safe amount in a liter of water.

"We know the water supplies of millions of Californians are contaminated with
perchlorate at potentially harmful levels," said Bill Walker, EWG's
California director. "But that's just the tip of the iceberg. There are
hundreds of untested wells and water systems across the country, and many
Americans may be consuming a toxin which is a health threat at very low
doses, especially to infants and children."

Too much perchlorate can damage the thyroid gland, which controls growth,
development and metabolism. At higher levels, perchlorate is known to cause
cancer.

Although there is currently no federal drinking water standard for
perchlorate, the EPA's proposed "reference dose," the level that the EPA says
is safe to consume each day, is two micrograms per day for an adult.

"If the perchlorate levels reported here are confirmed by further testing,"
EWG says, "immediate government action will be needed to reduce perchlorate
in lettuce and other vegetables." The EWG is urging the Food and Drug
Administration to test lettuce and other vegetables grown with Colorado River
water for perchlorate, and that the results of this testing be made public as
soon as they are confirmed.

In addition, says EWG, any grower affected by perchlorate contamination of
their crops "should be fully compensated for any and all economic losses to
their farming operations and property values."

"If this were a dictatorship, it'd be a heck of a lot easier, just so
long as I'm the dictator."

Portrait of George Washington: In Search of the Truth

By Mary Louise

The more a person learns, the more one realizes there is always more to a story than meets the eye and begins to see what was not seen before.  It is a process driven by a hunger and desire to know the truth for oneself, that enables the student to read between the lines and get past preconceived notions, misinformation, or propaganda to whatever remnants of truth that may be found.  This is our quest, to ask questions and seek truthful answers, not based on or sifted through the perceptions and biases of another.

Each and every individual has a responsiblity to weigh available information that goes above and beyond the shallow and superficial, to determine for themselves and their own conscience what is true or a lie, right or wrong, and good or bad.  Going on the premise that many facts of history have been altered and obscured, an inquisitive mind naturally asks who, what, why, where, and when in order to obtain the truth of a matter.  It is in the spirit of truth and search for it, that inspired the effort to find answers in this portrayal of the Father of our Country.

This essay is not intended to be a history lesson, but rather a verbal illustration reflecting, highlighting, and expressing particular aspects of special interest.  Since there is so much information to digest on any given subject, in varying degrees of complexity, it is necessary to cut to the chase and get to the point.  Many of the founding fathers believed the real American Revolution was not as much about refusing to pay unjust taxes, as it was the revolution of ideas which preceded and caused the war.  Together, the thirteen colonies set out to create something new under the sun and an unparalleled event, a government which derived its just authority from the consent of the governed, yet it cannot be denied there was a strong Masonic influence undermining for control.

Many stories circulate about the Masonic activities of George Washington and so it is on that basis this adventure started.  It began with a question that led to other questions.  For example, what were the Masonic ties to George Washington, who attended him when he was on his deathbed, and why was he excessively bled in his weakened condition.  The vile practice of bleeding was a subject of much criticism even in those days and Mrs. Washington was not at all sure it was the right thing to do for his ailment.  Historians agree that Washington was bled first on four occasions by Albin Rawlins.  Then enters Dr. James Craik, an old friend and personal physician of General Washington diagnosing quinsy (tonsil related), who did more bleedings at midmorning, early afternoon, and a final bleeding at about 3:30 p.m., at which time five pints of life giving fluid were taken in last application of the lancet (pointed, two-edged surgical instrument).  There were two other physicians present as well, Dr. Gustavus Brown and Dr. Elisha Dick, a younger doctor who diagnosed violent inflammation of the membranes of the throat and seriously doubted the wisdom of such treatment, proposing instead a tracheotomy that was overruled by Craik and Brown, who were both educated at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland.  Scottish rites anyone?  Craik also happened to reside in Alexandria, Virginia.  Hmmm

Some in the medical profession say he probably died of asphyxia, a condition resulting from inflammation of the epiglottis, shock from loss of blood, and dehydration.  There can be little doubt that excessive bleeding reduced him to a low state and very much aggravated his disease.  George Washington bore his suffering with fortitude and resignation to Divine Will.  With surprising self-possession he prepared to die, composing his form without a sigh, groan, or pangs of struggle, he appeared tranquil and said to Craik, "I am dying, sir, but am not afraid to die", as his noble spirit took flight on December 14, 1799.  Shortly after his death, in January of 1800, Dr. Craik wrote to Dr. Brown saying he had met with Dr. Elisha Dick again concerning the situation of their illustrious friend General Washington.  Craik acknowledges Elisha's clear reasoning and evident knowledge of the cause of certain symptons after examining the General, assuring them (James Craik and Gustavus Brown) it was not really quinsy as they (Craik and Brown) had supposed but a violent inflammation of the membranes of the throat and he was averse to bleeding.  Dr. Craik goes on to admit he thought if he (Craik) and Brown had acted accordingly to Elisha's suggestion, their good friend might still be alive.  But, in spite of that he excuses and downplays their serious mistake by adding the disclaimer they were governed by the best light they had and because they thought they were right, they were justified.  Excuse me, but we have found out otherwise!  Not

2002's Most Dubious News Stories of the Year

In a year when Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein made the bogeyman look
like the Tooth Fairy, the 'environmaniacs' kept telling anyone who would
listen the Earth was doomed and everything you ate, drank or breathed would
kill you. Here's my 12th annual review of The Most Dubious News Stories of
the Year on behalf of the National Anxiety Center, a clearinghouse for
information about scare campaigns that I founded in 1990.

The Obesity 'Epidemic.'
In a campaign similar to that leveled against the tobacco
industry, the drumbeat of news about an 'obesity' epidemic stayed in the
news much of the year. This attack on the fast-food industry was greeted
with joy by trial lawyers, the only people to actually benefit from idiotic
lawsuits. In July, the National Academy of Sciences' Institute of Medicine
warned against trans-fatty acids thus putting vegetable shortening, dairy
products, pastries, crackers, and fried foods off limits. That same month,
a New York City lawyer filed a suit against four fast-food corporations on
behalf of an obese client.

Beware of Chocolate.
In May, a California group, the American Environmental Safety Institute, launched a
lawsuit against major chocolate makers for failing to warn consumers against the
alleged danger of infinitesimal amounts of lead and cadmium. Trace amounts
of minerals, including arsenic, exist in everything we eat without any
demonstration of harm.

EPA says toxic sludge is good for fish.
In June, the Environmental Protection Agency and Army Corps of Engineers defended
the dumping of toxic sludge into the Potomac River saying that it may
"actually protect the fish." Despite the Clean Water and Endangered Species
Act, the EPA continues to ignore the threat its toxic sludge policy poses
to both animals and humans.

Attacking Plastic.
Despite four decades of safe use, the Food and Drug Administration issued a warning in
July about plastic intravenous [IV] bags and tubes based totally on a hypothetical
harm. Environmentalists have been attacking the use of plastic for decades,
claiming a 'carcinogenic' threat that even the World Health Organization
has refused to confirm.

Declaring the oceans to be 'wilderness.'
An environmental group, the Ocean Conservancy, in July, launched a campaign
claiming that recreational fisherman were threatening the "biodiversity" of
fish, seeking to put major portions of the ocean off limits to sport
fishing in Alaska, Hawaii and Florida.

End of the world claims.
The British, who thrive on claims the Earth will be destroyed at any moment,
were treated to yet another in July when the BBC warned that a space rock
that could hit the Earth on February 1, 2019.

Hot or cold? Which is it?
In October, Dr. Robert Gagosian, president of the Woods Hole Oceanographic
Institute in Massachusetts, predicted that "The earth's climate could
switch gears and jump very rapidly," thus plunging everyone into a new Ice
Age instead of the predicted global warming. Predictions are fun, they get
headlines, and they scare anyone silly enough to pay attention.

 'Light' and 'noise' pollution.
In July, the International Dark-Sky Association launched an effort in a Washington, DC
suburb to reduce nighttime lighting to "save the night skies." In August, a group
called
Noise Free America announced that "noise pollution" was a growing epidemic that would
lead to "social deterioration and chaos."

Cities under water.
Greenpeace, one of the most absurd of the many environmental organizations, claimed
in August that Manhattan and Shanghai, among other coastal cities could be underwater
and worldwide starvation would occur because of the rise in water levels.
Scientists have long known the oceans rise about three inches or less every
hundred years. All this is going on, despite the fact that life expectancy
in America is the highest it has ever been and the ample evidence that life
on Earth continues to improve for people throughout the world. The Earth is
not running out of food or natural resources. The claims of
environmentalists and others have nothing to do with scientific and
economic data that clearly demonstrates the improvement of life for people
everywhere.

Days of Deceit
Sept. 11, 2001 and Dec. 7, 1941
by Bill Walker

Those of us interested in building a free society have to face certain inconvenient facts about human psychology. One of the most inconvenient is that the majority of people are conspiracy theorists. Most people believe that there is a massive conspiracy by the rich and powerful to help and protect the average citizen.

There is reason to believe in a genetic basis for the attractiveness of this belief: humans are genetically adapted to live in small tribal bands. In hunter-gatherer bands, everyone is related and obedience to the tribal leaders is crucial. In a small tribal band, the tribal leaders have genetic incentives to conserve the lives of their relatives/followers. In order to outcompete and genetically dominate neighboring bands, it is essential that all members of the tribe follow the call to war. Like bees responding to attack pheromones, primitive Homo sapiens respond to tribal leaders screaming about outside threats by uniting to kill the outsiders.

None of our genetic predispositions prepare us for life in modern nation-states with hundreds of millions of people. To live in a free society it is necessary to think for ourselves… something that requires a lot of effort and makes us feel uncomfortable. It's a lot easier to just fall into the old tribal ways of thinking, and follow people who look authoritative and talk loudly. So the majority of mankind follow the "tribal leaders" that they see on TV, when the "leaders" call them to war.

The "leaders" are tribal too, but in a different way. They see the great mass of humanity not as their tribe, but as their flocks, to be driven and slaughtered for the profit of their personal tribe. Even the vegetarian leaders, like Hitler, are willing to consume their followers' lives.

The antidote to TV-generated "leaders" is knowledge of history. People with a grasp of history can use the knowledge of how rulers deceived people in the past to anticipate the lies of the future. Historical knowledge is not difficult to come by… except perhaps in public schools, where it is most critical. But those of us not trapped in the educational gulag have no excuse for not knowing a little about the past. Especially when we have well-researched works such as Robert Stinnett's Day Of Deceit available at our local libraries.

There was suspicion from the beginning that Roosevelt deliberately pushed the Japanese military leaders into attacking Pearl Harbor so that he could get the war he wanted: the war to expand government in spite of the economic failures of the increasingly unpopular New Deal. It isn't taught in public school histories, but people were getting tired of the permanent Depression by 1940. Only the gathering threat of foreign war distracted the voters enough to keep Roosevelt in office in 1940. Even with the political boost of the War, the Democrats lost the House anyway in 1948.

There have been nine Congressional investigations into Pearl Harbor, the last by Strom Thurmond in 1995. But none of these investigations succeeded in the elementary step of calling the Navy radio intercept operators to testify. Though the Congress summoned them more than once, the Navy has stonewalled all these years, claiming "national security" reasons right up through 1995… as though the pre-digital-computer encryption schemes of 1940 were of any relevance in the 1990s. The only "security" provided by 50-year-old lies is security for the bureaucracies that continue to lie to us today.

Stinnett interviewed some of these Navy intercept personnel, as well as making numerous FOIA requests. Many of his requests were denied for "security" reasons, but he has assembled enough documentary and interview evidence to draw a clear picture of Roosevelt's plan to make Americans fight a World War on two fronts.

The Evidence Presented by Stinnet

The book is not that long, and it's a good read. So I won't try to cover every detail that Stinnett dug up. His main points are:

There was an "8-action plan" for forcing the Japanese into war. Among the actions that were carried out were incursions into Japanese territorial waters around the Japanese home islands by American cruisers, conspiracy with the Dutch and English to cut off Japanese oil, and finally a total trade embargo. Keeping the main body of the fleet in Pearl Harbor was part of the plan. (Of course in 1940 Roosevelt was simultaneously fighting an illegal undeclared war against the Nazi submarine fleet, so the "8-action plan" was only part of the overall strategy.)

The US had broken the Japanese Navy encryption well before Pearl Harbor (the US Navy has lied about this for decades). Japanese commanders trusted their cryptography, and Roosevelt had complete information of their plans and movements. These radio intercepts were made from stations in Hawaii and Corregidor, but the

As I get back in the swing of things after some holiday

L. Brent Bozell.

(But first, a correction: The December 30 CyberAlert referred
to how "In the guise of rye observations, Franken got off some
shots at President Bush..." Al Franken wasn't talking about bread,
so "rye" should have read wry.)

Also, National Review Online has a piece today by Kathyrn Jean

Fifteenth Annual Awards for the Year's Worst Reporting." Go to:

And the MRC's home page now features a RealPlayer clip from
the comments about the awards quotes made by Cal Thomas on his FNC

Now to the Bozell columns:

Bozell's columns are posted online at:

> The text of Bozell's December 18 column, "Promoting 'Peace'
at the Post"

In the ongoing wild goose chase for the "conservative" major
media, leftists are complaining that anti-war voices are being
shut out. Liberal media outlets, always more sensitive to
complaints from the left than from the right, have snapped out of
their post 9-11 patriotic stupor and are back to giving the
"peace" movement the spotlight.

Liberals complain about everything but I dare them to fault The
Washington Post, which is getting more and more aggressive in
promoting the "peace" movement now that the Democrats don't have
to worry as much about the dangers of pacifism at the polls.

It all started with a "peace" rally in Washington on October 26,
claiming 100,000 protesters, which received Page One treatment in
the Post. (The annual March for Life regularly attracts that kind
of crowd, but has trouble making the front page of the paper's
Metro section.) Leftists pounded those retrograde right-wing media
outfits, like the New York Times and National Public Radio, for
failing to hype this event. But something strange happened on the
way to the front page. No one bothered to look at what was really
said at the podium.

The peace movement has become a convention of and for kooks.
Former attorney general Ramsey Clark -- yes, him again -- compared
the U. S. government to the Nazis: "Heinrich Himmler led the
Gestapo. He said, 'Shoot first and ask questions afterward and I
will protect you.' And that's what we plan to do with Iraq and
other countries." If that wasn't loopy enough, kook-in-chief
continued: "The government takes as much pride in destroying the
Declaration of Independence as well as the Bill of Rights as in
anything else it does. It wants to end the idea of individual
freedom and to make people do what the government says, even if
that means martial law."

Isn't any of this noteworthy?

And yet not a word of this appeared in the Post. This is not at
all unusual. Liberal reporters routinely ignore the newsmakers at
left wing rallies -- the rally's leaders - and instead select
their soundbites from among the "mainstream protesters," as one
ABC producer called them during the Gulf War. In this story, the
Post found people like 22-year-old Larina Brown from the
University of Minnesota at Morris, who was relieved by the large
crowd, since "I really wanted this to be a big statement, to show
it's not just radical, anti-American people who go to these
things."

No, they just speak at these things but you'd never know it
reading the Washington Post.

Since the rally, the "peace" movement has enjoyed a flurry of
positive Post stories. On December 2, reporter Evelyn Nieves
graced the top of Page One with a story claiming an "extraordinary
array" of groups was somehow newsworthy in opposing the war.
Nieves, who also sidelines for the radical magazine Mother Jones,
claimed it was somehow "news" that the same old, tired left-wing
assortment of unions, businessmen-pacifists, former veterans, and
religious activists was actively protesting.

On December 10, the front page of the Style section touted "The
Peace Warriors," with reporter David Montgomery delivering the
regular kook-smoothing pitch: "But let's not define the movement
only by its wild frontiers." The major organizer of the

Senator Lieberman: Your Peace is Our Demise
Thursday, January 02 2003 @ 06:32 AM GMT
By Ramzy Baroud

SEATTLE (PalestineChronicle.com) - US Senator and likely Presidential candidate Joseph Lieberman is touring the Middle East. His visit will most likely be described as a success. And why not?

Lieberman conversed with Ariel Sharon and top Israeli leaders. He vowed time and again to stand by Israel in its “war on terrorism”, and its right to “self-defense.” He managed to completely ignore the elected Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, meeting instead with Saeb Erekat, the former head of the Palestinian negotiation team. When asked about who was to blame for a bloody two years of occupation and bloodshed, he uttered, the “blame goes on the terrorists,” the Palestinians of course.

With that said, Lieberman managed to squeeze in a few statements about the need for peace, and Palestinian reforms, and a Palestinian crackdown on terrorism, and Palestinian willingness to negotiation and a new Palestinian leadership, etc. To be fair, Lieberman did briefly address the humanitarian needs of the Palestinians. But of course, it was not Israel who received the blame for the growing humanitarian catastrophe, but the “terrorists.”

But once again, the trip was a “complete success” if one considers official American policy in the Middle East; scolding and blaming the Palestinians, pretending that there is no such thing as a deadly Israeli occupation, illegal settlements or even occupied territories (For now, according to Donald Rumsfeld, they are known as “so-called occupied territories).

I followed the news of Lieberman’s visit to the Middle East, although I expected nothing out of the ordinary, no surprises, until he visited Saudi Arabia, another leg on his tour, one mainly aimed at building war alliances against Iraq.

In an interview with Saudi Arabia’s English daily, Arab News, on Dec 26, Lieberman mentioned something rather interesting. Despite my previous knowledge of the man’s undaunted commitment to Israel and to its interests, I couldn’t help but pause with surprise at a seemingly fleeting comment he made while comparing, or refusing to compare, Iraq to Israel. “But Israel is not a danger to its people and its neighbors in a way that Iraq under (Iraqi President) Saddam (Hussein) is. Obviously, from an American point of view, we feel over the years that the UN has been slanted against Israel and doesn’t give Israel a fair deal,” Lieberman told Arab News.

Considering the pro-Israeli rhetoric we often hear coming from US officials, especially those running for an office of some sort, I wondered to myself: what is so different about Lieberman’s statement from those uttered by other top US officials?

For one, Lieberman’s statement, although short, managed to squeeze in an unprecedented number of inaccuracies. The skill needed to pull off such a declaration is indeed impressive. But more, Lieberman’s statement appeared to subscribe more to the official Israeli viewpoint, and that of pro-Israeli lobby groups in the US, than that of the US administration itself.

Needless to say, Lieberman’s statement is false. Although, it is President George Bush who is often ridiculed by late night comedians in the US for not knowing a great deal about history or world politics, Lieberman’s statement, if genuine, suggests that the possible Presidential candidate is much less informed. For one, while Iraq did indeed invade Kuwait and fought a bitter war with its neighbor Iran, Israel has shown more hostilities to its neighbors than any other Middle Eastern country. Israel has attacked Egypt on several occasions, unleashed a deadly war on Lebanon, systemically attacked Palestinians, invaded parts of other Arab states, struck as far as Tunisia and Iraq, and is currently occupying the West Bank, Gaza, East Jerusalem, the Sheba farms, and the Golan Heights. Unlike Iraq’s invasions, Israel’s are long lived.

Following the Iraqi army invasion of Kuwait in 1990, the United Nations (thanks to the speedy efforts of the United States) passed a tough, straight-forward Security Council resolution demanding that Iraq pull out, or face war. Even before diplomacy received a fair chance, the US piled up untold armies and “bombed Iraq to the stone age.” Iraq is yet to escape the curse of that stone age, as promised by former President George Bush Senior, as the deadly sanctions not only crippled the country’s economy, but wasted an entire generation, who died as a result of food shortages, lack of medicine or were poisoned by depleted Uranium. Even more, the US has just managed to push through yet another tough UN resolution, threatening Iraq with “serious consequences” if it fails to comply with the weapon inspectors, no matter how humiliating their demands may be. Moreover, the US is already â€

Operation Provoke War
by Maria Tomchick
December 31, 2002

In recent weeks, the Bush administration has stepped up efforts to destabilize the Iraqi government, while aggressively deploying troops and ships in a manner that could provoke an attack from Iraq – and provide an excuse to start a war.

Over the weekend of December 14 to 16, the U.S. hosted a conference in London of Iraqi exiled opposition groups. The 300 delegates, closely monitored by U.S. diplomats and advisors, chose a council of 65 people to function as a liaison between the U.S. and the Iraqi people after Saddam Hussein is deposed. The conference was led by U.S. Special Envoy Zalmay Khalilzad, who shepherded the Afghani conference in Bonn that set up the new government in Kabul. Clearly, the Bush administration is gearing up to do in Iraq what they've already done in Afghanistan (never mind that the UN inspectors haven't finished their job yet).

The Pentagon, meanwhile, has set up a special radio station to broadcast anti-Saddam propaganda to the Iraqi people. The station went on the air December 12, after U.S. planes dropped half a million leaflets over Iraq with the name of the station and the five frequencies where it can be heard. Between bursts of Arabic music, the station intones: "People of Iraq the amount of money Saddam spends on himself in one day would be more than enough to feed a family for one year." The station also directs messages at the Iraqi military in an effort to spur a military coup.

The CIA has been up to its own dirty tricks, too. Earlier this year, Congress and the Bush administration allocated $200 million to the CIA to "fight the War on Terrorism." The CIA has been using a lot of that money in Iraq, giving sacks of cash to tribal leaders in rural areas near Baghdad, in an effort to buy the loyalty of Sunni tribal leaders who have backed Saddam Hussein in the past. Of course, the CIA is assiduously avoiding the Shiite tribes in southern Iraq, who haven't forgotten how the CIA sold them out after the Gulf War, promising to help them rise up and overthrow Saddam, but then abandoning them to be massacred.

Turkish TV has also reported the movement of U.S. trucks with supplies into northern Kurdish regions of Iraq. The U.S. supported the Kurds soon after the Gulf War by establishing the Northern No-Fly Zone, which prevented Saddam from bombing rebellious Kurdish factions. But U.S. support goes far beyond that: supplies are now being moved into the Kurdish regions, and U.S. personnel are helping to train Kurdish rebels, while scouting the best sites for landing strips and operational bases for the upcoming war.

In addition, the CIA and the Pentagon are recruiting Kurds and exiled Iraqis to serve (ostensibly) as interpreters, guides, and support staff for an invasion. Hungary has agreed to host a new $9 million training facility for some 3,000 Iraqi exiles. Some of these men may be trained to fight. While the Pentagon has fiercely denied that any weapons training will be done, they haven't explained, however, why the training has to be done in Hungary and not on U.S. soil. Considering that the Pentagon and CIA have kept captured Al Qaeda and Taliban fighters isolated at "secret" bases in foreign countries to avoid scrutiny by the Red Cross, the U.N., and human rights advocates, the fact that Iraqi exiles will be trained in an Eastern European country is suspicious, to say the least.

In the meantime, U.S. troops and warships are being deployed in a way that could draw Iraqi fire. Some 12,000 U.S. troops have been conducting long-running military exercises in Kuwait; over the Christmas holiday, they spent 5 days engaged in live-fire exercises just a few miles from the border with Iraq. At the same time, U.S. and British warships participating in the sanctions blockade have become more aggressive in recent weeks, moving into Iraqi territorial waters, even into the mouth of Khor Abd Allah estuary. The danger here is that a warship may collide with an Iraqi mine or meet an Iraqi vessel and begin a shooting war – which may be just the excuse the Bush administration needs in order to start an all-out war.

Certainly, Bush has quietly given the order to step up the bombing campaign over the no-fly zones. In the past, U.S. planes targeted only Iraqi radar and anti-aircraft weaponry. But now the pilots are "being given a more 'meaningful' list of targets," according to Reuters reporter Peter Graff. The list includes command bunkers, communications equipment, and unspecified "other targets" (presumably infrastructure or military posts that would be bombed in the upcoming war). In addition, the planes are hitting their targets more frequently and with heavier bombs.

And so the air war has already begun, on the sly, ramping up slowly so no one will notice right away. This is, after all, the preferred modus operandi for the Bush administration. The

Malachi Martin on The End of Religion (As We Know It)
by Uri Dowbenko

(Note: The following was one of the last interviews by Malachi Martin before his death in 1999.)

Ever since Nimrod and the Tower of Babel, the Power Elite have never given up on their feverish dream of a One World Government.

Former Jesuit Malachi Martin's novel, Windswept House (Doubleday/ Main Street Books), offers a lurid behind the scenes look at a cabal of Vatican insiders who want to use the Roman Catholic Church as a foundation for a politico-religious New World Order.

The plot of the novel involves a group of Church officials who scheme with a group of like-minded corporate executives to manipulate the Church into a ready-made infrastructure for a One World Religion -- a universal umbrella for everybody from Episcopalians to voodoo practitioners.

The new ecumenicalism is clothed in Globalist garb. The agenda includes promoting issues like population control, environmentalism and secular humanism, which the plotters hope will eventually lead to the complete secularization of religion.

The most outrageous and controversial premise of the novel -- described in great detail in the prologue -- is that a ceremony was performed in the Vatican in 1963 -- an occult ritual which enthroned the fallen archangel Lucifer as the head of the Roman Catholic Church.

Does Dr. Martin believe that this enthronement actually took place in his novel, which could liberally be described as a roman a clef?

"Yes, it did," he says emphatically. "Beyond a shadow of a doubt in my mind. But now the place, time, hour etc., are all obfuscated to protect the guilty and save the innocent."

Was it common knowledge in the Vatican at the time? "Not common knowledge," explains Martin. "But I found out about it by being a member of the Vatican circles that learned these things. It's like everything else. I'm sure there are people floating around Washington, and they know an awful lot about what's going on. Someone says, 'how do you know that'? Well, it's just... we know it."

The story ofWindswept House continues in present day Europe as an international group of conspirators spanning Church and State plots a one world government on behalf of Lucifer. So are readers to infer that no matter what happens, the Pope and the Church hierarchy are bound to serve the fallen angel?

"No," explains Dr. Martin. "What it means is that for the moment, Lucifer the biggest archangel, the leader of the revolt against God, has a big in with certain Vatican officials. Enthronement doesn't mean that he rules. It means that they did their best to put him there. The ideal would be to have their man as Pope. In that case then Satan would be enthroned."

The book goes on to describe how two brothers, one a priest and the other an investment banker, grapple with these awesome consequences as pawns in the game. Meanwhile the cabal of Globalist-oriented Vatican officials and European-based internationalists try to corner the Pope into voluntary resignation so that they can get their man in the Chair of Peter.

This theme coincidentally is also the basis, albeit in non-fiction form, of Martin's book The Keys of This Blood: Pope John Paul II Versus Russia and the West for Control of the New World Order.

The upshot? A One World Government is a fait accompli, he infers. What Dr. Martin calls the "millennium endgame" is a competition for a new global hegemony by the key Globalist players. What's interesting is that the novel appears to be a seamless transition from his previous non-fiction work. The reader then is put in the position of concluding that the New World Order is a done deal, that a One World Government is here and now and, as the expression goes, it's all over but the crying.

But you wouldn't expect Globalist agit-prop from a former Jesuit. Or would you?

And Who Is Malachi Martin?

Author of 15 books on religious and geo-political topics, Malachi Martin is highly regarded and respected as a world renowned scholar.

Trained in theology at Louvain, he received his doctorates in Semitic Languages, Archaeology and Oriental History. He subsequently studied at Oxford and Hebrew University in Jerusalem. From 1958 to 1964, he served in Rome, where he was a close associate of the Jesuit cardinal Augustin Bea and Pope John XXIII, as well as a professor at the Vatican's Pontifical Biblical Institute.

Malachi Martin is the author of many best-selling books including Vatican, Hostage to the Devil, The Jesuits, The Final Conclave, and The Keys of This Blood. Also he was a Roman Catholic priest of the Society of Jesus until 1964 when he left the Jesuits. Why?

"It was a grave decision," he says. "I could see the way the Church was going, the way churchmen were going in their decisions and all the anchors I had for morality and zeal were being undone. Then when the Va

changed the IOS so Cisco told Quest Communications and SBC that they
could not support the modem and SBC did not care. SBC is pressuring
small ISP's into buying their modified DSL modems and pass them on to
their customers. SBC modems are a DANGEROUS Trojan Horse that insiders
can use to get into your computer no matter what kind of firewall you
use because since the back door is through the ISO itself the firewall
will think it is normal traffic allow it. Do not use SBC or Quest
Communications supplied modems. Use modems from Cisco. Insist that your
small ISP use Cisco modems and thumb their nose at SBC.

SBC and Quest Communications modems are a dangerous Trojan Horse so
beware!

[CTRL] Global Warming Found to Displace Species

Global Warming Found to Displace Species

Thu Jan 2, 8:59 AM ET

By ANDREW C. REVKIN The New York Times

Global warming (news - web sites) is forcing species around the world, from
California starfish to Alpine herbs, to move into new ranges or alter habits
in ways that could disrupt ecosystems, two groups of researchers say.

The two new studies, by teams at the University of Texas, Wesleyan, Stanford
and elsewhere, are reported in today's issue of the journal Nature. Experts
not associated with the studies say they provide the clearest portrait yet of
a biological world driven into accelerating flux by warming caused at least
in part by human activity.

Plants and animals have always had to adjust to shifting climates. But
climate is changing faster now than in recent millenniums, and many
scientists attribute the pace to rising concentrations of heat-trapping
greenhouse gases.

In some cases, species' ranges have shifted 60 miles or more in recent
decades, mainly toward the poles, according to the new analyses. In others,
the timing of egg laying, migrations and the like has shifted weeks earlier
in the year, creating the potential to separate species, in both time and
place, from their needed sources of food.

One academic not associated with the studies, Dr. Richard P. Alley, an expert
on past climate shifts who teaches at Pennsylvania State University, said
that climate had changed more abruptly a few times since the last ice age and
that nature had shifted in response. But, he noted, "the preindustrial
migrations were made without having to worry about cornfields, parking lots
and Interstates."

Citing the new work and studies of past climate shifts, Dr. Alley saw
particular significance in the expectation that animals and plants that rely
on one another were likely to migrate at different rates. Referring to
affected species, he said, "You'll have to change what you eat, or rely on
fewer things to eat, or travel farther to eat, all of which have costs."

The result in coming decades could be substantial ecological disruption,
local losses of wildlife and extinction of some species, the two studies
said.

The authors express their findings with a certainty far greater than in the
last decade, when many of the same researchers contributed to reports on
biological effects of warming that were published by the Intergovernmental
Panel on Climate Change, the top international research group on the issue.

The authors of one of the new Nature papers, Dr. Camille Parmesan, a
biologist at the University of Texas, and Dr. Gary Yohe, an economist at
Wesleyan University, calculated that many ecological changes measured in
recent decades had a 95 percent chance of being a result of climate warming
and not some other factor.

"You're seeing the impact of climate on natural systems now," Dr. Yohe said.
"It's really important to take that seriously."

Some butterflies have shifted northward in Europe by 30 to 60 miles or more,
with the changes closely matching those in average warm-season temperatures,
Dr. Parmesan said. The researchers were able to rule out other factors
habitat destruction, for example as causes of the changes.

Some of these changes meshed tightly with variations in temperature over
time. Dr. Parmesan cited bird studies in Britain. There, populations of the
great tit adjusted their egg laying earlier or later as climate warmed early
in the 20th century, then cooled in midcentury and warmed even more sharply
after the 1970's.

Over all, Dr. Parmesan's study found that species' ranges were tending to
shift toward the poles at some four miles a decade and that spring events,
like egg laying or trees' flowering, were shifting 2.3 days earlier a decade.

Around Monterey Bay in California, warmer waters have caused many
invertebrates to shift northward, driving some species out of the bay and
allowing others to move in from the south.

Authors of both new papers said they were concerned that such significant
ecological changes had already been detected even though global temperatures
had risen only about one degree in the last century.

They noted that projections of global warming by 2100 ranged from 2.5 to 10
degrees above current levels, should concentrations of carbon dioxide and
other heat-trapping gases, which flow mainly from smokestacks and tailpipes,
continue to rise.

By comparison, the world took some 18,000 years to climb out of the depths of
the last ice age and warm some five to nine degrees to current conditions.

"If we're already seeing such dramatic changes" among species, "it's really
pretty frightening to think what we might see in the next 100 years," said
Dr. Terry L. Root, an ecologist at Stanford University who was the lead
author of one of the new studies.

The two teams of researchers used different statistical methods to analy

The stocks were selected on the basis of popular product lines, strong political connections and lobbying efforts, and paid-for access to key Congressional decision makers."BoeingBoeing is probably best known for making commercial jet airplanes, but 40% its annual revenue is generated from the sale of military aircraft, missiles, lasers, guidance systems, and the like. The company's Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) was such a big hit in Afghanistan that it can hardly keep up with orders from the Air Force and Navy.

Dawn of Imperial America
In the New World Order as seen through the eyes of George W. Bush, everyone has the right to be like Americans
RICHARD GWYN

"The aim of this strategy is to help make the world not just safer but better."

U.S. National Security Strategy, Sept. 19, 2002.

"We have about 60 per cent of the world's wealth but only 6.3 per cent of its population. Our real task in the coming period (will be) to maintain this position of disparity. We need not deceive ourselves that we can afford the luxury of altruism and world benefaction ... the day is not far off when we are going to have to deal in straight power concepts. The less we are hampered then by idealistic slogans the better."

George Kennan, head of U.S. State Department Planning, Feb 24, 1948.

Idealism vs. imperialism. Realpolitik vs. humanitarianism. Trying to make the whole world a better place or — as predicted long ago by George Kennan, the brilliant diplomat who authored the doctrine of "containing" the Soviet Union that determined U.S. policy throughout the Cold War — doing everything needed from kicking ass to spin-doctoring so that Americans can continue gorging themselves on the world's goodies.

On the eve of a U.S. attack on Iraq — an attack, that's to say, on a small Third World country by the military master of the universe — it may seem hopelessly naive to suggest any alternative is in prospect but imperialism, national self-interest and a lot of ass kicking, softened, as in the 33-page National Security Strategy document, by occasional genuflections toward worthy concepts like "multilateralism."

Although not equal in weight and in plausibility, those alternatives, or at the very least some mix of them, nevertheless constitute the principal elements of the New World Order that is taking shape at the start of the 21st century.

Call it President George W. Bush's version of the "vision" thing that his presidential father so conspicuously lacked.

There's the formal version, contained in the strategy document. Mostly, it's about unilateralism and military power.

But it also proclaims: "People everywhere want to be able to speak freely; choose who will govern them; worship as they please; educate their children, male and female ... these values of freedom are right and true for every person in every society."

Everyone has the right to be like Americans, it would seem.

There's the informal version, contained in comments by Bush to author and Watergate journalism hero, Bob Woodward, for his recently published Bush At War about Washington behind the scenes during the first three months after 9/11.

In his interviews with Woodward, Bush kept returning to the notion of spreading democracy and freedom, first in Iraq, then throughout the Middle East.

"They tell me we don't need to move too fast," said Bush. "I just don't buy that. Either you believe in freedom, and want to — and worry about the human condition, or you don't."

This would be "nation-building," which Bush once scorned on a massive scale.

Cynics will put it all down to public relations. And they may well be right.

Bush's great political appeal, though, is that he says what he thinks and that he usually means what he says.

And in these passages he sounds strangely like the late president Woodrow Wilson, or, in modern times, former president, now Nobel Peace Prize winner, Jimmy Carter. (Except that unlike those two idealists, Bush's vice-president is hawk-eyed Dick Cheney and his defence secretary is rock-hard Donald Rumsfeld.)

The test of the direction the Bush administration will take won't involve the decision whether to invade Iraq, a decision due to be taken formally fairly soon in the New Year. That's because that decision has already been taken.

Whether Saddam Hussein actually has any weapons of mass destruction has always been largely irrelevant, except in public relations terms.

All that has ever mattered has been "regime change," either by a U.S. invasion or by a lucky bullet by a dissident Iraqi general.

To leave Saddam in power after United Nations inspectors had removed all his weapons of mass destruction (or after failing to find any) would leave Bush looking like that old duffer the Duke of York, who marched his 10,000 troops up a hill and then marched them down again.

Worse, by far, once Iraq was free of toxic weapons, the U.N. sanctions would have to be lifted. Saddam would have survived, looking like a winner.

Barring that lucky bullet, an invasion thus is inevitable.

It's what happens after Iraq's invasion and conquest, and also after the installation of a puppet government, that may define the character of, at the very least, international politics for the first couple of decades of the 21st century.

The Americans will

Of course Binny does not want to attack Israel. The policies of the

abandons Apartheid and intolerant Zionism and decides to deal

This is very true. However none of these attacks should be viewed

[CTRL] MANIFESTO OF THE NEW WORLD ORDER

2003-01-02 Thread Jei
-Caveat Lector-

MANIFESTO OF THE NEW WORLD ORDER
By: Ed Henry
Published in the January 2, 2003 issue of Ether Zone.

Billed as "The Project for the New American Century," under the idea that
"The history of the past century should have taught us to embrace the
cause of American leadership," the megalomania of our current government
can be seen as the effort "to promote American global leadership" in its
ninety page manifesto.

If you wonder why we have hundreds of thousands of American troops spread
across the world in hundreds of countries when in most cases they have not
been called there by the United Nations or anyone else, then read this
1997 "Statement of Principles."

If you realize that we could easily stop terrorism inside our own nation
by simply bringing our troops home and wonder why we don't even consider
it, then read this document.

If you wonder why nations like South Korea, nations that we supposedly
saved, now want our troops withdrawn and are building resentment towards
the United States as an aggressor more dangerous than the enemy we saved
them from, then you better understand the doctrine of world domination
that our leaders are following.

If you feel overtaxed in an economy that's sliding while our government, a
regulatory body that by its very nature should not be counted on for
positive ideas or ventures, is borrowing us into oblivion while turning
the one thing you do depend on them for—defense—into acts of outright
aggression or "first strike" policies, then you better read this
manifesto.

If you wonder why the richest nation in the world doesn't pay its UN dues
until we want something from them or have any doubts we will "go it alone"
regardless of what the UN finds or says, then you better understand our
empire building plans, all done in the name of "defense" and
"constabulary" duties of peace through threat.

No longer can this subject be passed off as something solely for
conspiracy theorists and bespectacled worry warts. Now, it's out in the
open. Even members of the CFR are being praised and given television time.

What's more, our former allies and enemies, particularly those like
Germany who have had tyranny sneak up on them before, are beginning to
view America and American statements with a very jaundiced eye.

If you simply want to know when to salute and when to wave your flag so
that you don't get in trouble or end up in one of the military bases
Clinton closed and converted into concentration camps, then download this
doctrine and keep it next to your bible.

[CTRL] TOXIC TRADE WATCHDOG CALLS US EPA's PROPOSAL ON ELECTRONIC WASTE ILLEGAL AND AN AFFRONT TO ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE

TOXIC TRADE WATCHDOG CALLS US EPA's PROPOSAL ON ELECTRONIC WASTE ILLEGAL AND AN
AFFRONT TO ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE

Press Release by Basel Action Network

SEATTLE, U.S.A, 13 September 2002 -- The Basel Action Network (BAN) has
roundly criticized the United States Environmental Protection Agency and
their new proposed rule on Cathode Ray Tube (CRTs) and Mercury Containing
Wastes in comments submitted on Monday. The EPA ruling will allow the
export of waste CRTs containing the toxic metal lead, without any controls
whatsoever.

The environmental group contends that EPA is perpetuating a policy of
global environmental injustice that flies in the face of its national
commitments to assure that no population is forced to suffer a
disproportionate environmental burden. Further BAN has pointed out that
the proposed rule is actually illegal under an accord signed by the United
States with other member nations of the Organization of Economic
Cooperation and Development (OECD) in 1986.

"The EPA seems not to care one whit about environmental justice outside of
its own borders, nor does it seem to worry itself with details like
international law," said BAN coordinator Jim Puckett. "Rather they will go
very far out of their way to provide openings to sweep America's toxic
waste problems out the back door and very cynically they do this using the
pretext of promoting "recycling".

In February BAN together with the Silicon Valley Toxics Coalition and
other Asian environmental groups, released a shocking exposé that showed
that the United States government, unlike any developed nation in the
world, allows the export of hazardous e-waste to developing countries with
no controls whatsoever. In Asia the waste is recycled in very dangerous
and deadly conditions leaving workers exposed to toxic substances and the
Asian environment trashed. Much of this waste goes to China - a country
that has banned its importation.

The report called on the United States to close the e-waste export
floodgates. Even the Chinese government in recent media releases called on
exporting countries to take responsibility for their own wastes. However
the EPA subsequently released its ruling for the management of hazardous
CRTs, the bulky toxic lead-containing tube in a typical computer monitor
or television, that will likely increase exports of such wastes.

"The proposed rule is both an insult and an injury to all of those around
the world that have expressed concern about toxic dumping and global
environmental justice," said Puckett. "After receiving much praise from
EPA insiders for our work in exposing the dirty trade in electronic waste,
it comes as a shock to see the Agency turn around and actually propose
rules designed to exempt hazardous electronic wastes from the few export
controls now possible under national law."

It has already gone nowhere. This story is the basis for the "
Lewinsky/Clinton " scandal, and its
aftermath, the attempt to remove Clinton from office.
Ellements on the Right could not tolerate business as usual if it meant
selling dangerous weapons to
the Communists in China. The selling of weapons is better than OK
usually, but these systems allowed China to reach US shores with missiles

These were in fact acts of treason perpetrated by the usual suspects...

Firms Accused of Giving Space Technology to China
State Department Charges That U.S. Companies Made Illegal
Transfers
By John Mintz
Washington Post Staff Writer
Wednesday, January 1, 2003; Page A07
The State Department has charged that two of the country's largest
aerospace companies, Hughes Electronics Corp. and Boeing Satellite
Systems
Inc., illegally transferred sensitive U.S. space technology to China in
the
1990s that could have helped Beijing's military develop
intercontinental
missiles.
If a federal administrative judge and, later, a top State
Department
official agree with the allegations in a 32-page State Department
"charging
letter" filed without public notice last Thursday, the companies
could be
fined as much as $60 million and barred for three years from
selling
controlled technologies overseas, a penalty that could particularly
hurt
Boeing.
The companies have strenuously denied wrongdoing in the case, which
began
with a series of failed space launches in China starting in 1995.
Hughes
officials are alleged to have given Chinese experts detailed
information
about rocketry to help China's space program figure out why its
rockets
were failing soon after launch.
The Hughes Electronics space launch division, which committed the
supposed
improprieties, was purchased by Boeing in 2000 for $3.7 billion. The
two
corporate bodies charged by the State Department last week are the
Hughes
parent company and the division of Boeing that gobbled up the former
Hughes
space launch unit.
This type of administrative charge is extraordinarily rare, U.S.
officials
said. The filing reflects officials' anger that the two firms have
aggressively battled the charges and resisted admitting what they did
in
China was wrong, they added.
"We don't believe we've done anything wrong," said Hughes
Electronics
spokesman Robert Marsocci. "We're in negotiations with the
State
Department, and we'll be reviewing our options."
A Boeing spokesman, Dan Beck, said the company would not
comment.
The Justice Department spent years on a criminal investigation of
those
companies and a third, Loral Space & Communications Ltd., involved
in
similar activity in China. But several months ago, federal
prosecutors
informed the firms that they would not file criminal charges.
Last January, Loral agreed to pay a $14 million fine and to spend
$6
million on internal reforms to stop overseas technology transfers.
The
government did not file the kind of administrative charges against
Loral
that it filed last week against Hughes and Boeing.
The charging document, signed by William J. Lowell, director of the
State
Department's office of defense trade controls, said Hughes and
Boeing
committed 123 violations of the Arms Export Control Act and the
International Traffic in Arms Regulations.
Government officials praised Loral for facing up to its past
improprieties
and imposing corporate guidelines to prevent a recurrence.
Officials
offered no such praise for Boeing and Hughes.

"The department has had several rounds of discussion with Hughes and
Boeing
to explore a resolution similar to the one with Loral," said
State
Department spokesman Jay Greer. "We can note that unlike Loral,
Hughes and
Boeing have both failed to recognize the seriousness of the violations
and
have been unprepared to take steps to resolve the matter, or to ensure
no
recurrence of violations in the future."
Hughes and Boeing for years have insisted the State Department is wrong
to
declare it improper for them to have had discussions with Chinese
officials
about the space launch failures. The firms point out that during
the
mid-1990s, their operations in China were covered by Commerce
Department
regulations that were more lax and, the companies say, allowed for
some
give and take with Beijing officials. The State Department says that
the
more stringent export control laws still were in force, and that
the
companies broke them.
After the explosion of the space shuttle Challenger in 1986,
President
Ronald Reagan decided in 1988 that U.S. space companies should be
allowed
to launch their satellites aboard China's Long March rockets to
accommodate
the fast-growing American telecommunications industry.
But the U.S. firms were barred from giv

[CTRL] Terrorism alerts based more on political need than fact

Bush Leagues
Terrorism alerts based more on political need than fact
By DOUG THOMPSON
Jan 2, 2003, 00:00

Intelligence professionals say privately the Bush administration is
engaging in "hysterics" with multiple terrorism alerts that have little or
no basis in fact.

The alerts, instead, are part of a carefully scripted White House campaign
to keep terrorism on the minds of American voters along with public
approval ratings of administration handling of the stalled war on
terrorism.

"Unfortunately, we haven't made a lot of progress against al Qaeda or the
war on terrorism," says one FBI agent assigned to the task. "We've been
spinning our wheels for several weeks now."

Sources within both the FBI and CIA tell Capitol Hill Blue the Bush
administration keeps up the pressure to come up with "something, anything"
to support the glut of vague terrorism alerts from both the White House and
the Department of Homeland Security.

"Most of the time, we have little to go on, only unconfirmed snippets of
information," admits another FBI agent. "Most alerts are issued without any
concrete data to back up the assumptions."

Disgruntled agents say the latest nationwide manhunt for "five Arab men" is
an example of politics superseding normal investigative procedures.

"We have very, very little to support the notion that these five represent
any more of a threat than any of the other thousands of people who enter
this nation every day," says terrorism expert Ronald Blackstone. "It's a
fishing expedition."

And some of the fish may not even be in this country. On Wednesday, a
Pakistani jeweler, Mohammed Asghar, said he was one of the five men in the
pictures distributed by the FBI. The Associated Press tracked him down in
Pakistan, not the U.S., and Asghar said he's never been in this country.

"I imagine the finger pointing has started at the White House," Blackstone
said. "Somebody screwed the pooch on this one."

Another source said early today that the tip on the five men came from a
known document forger who was arrested and is trying to cut a deal to avoid
prosecution.

"Hopefully, they have more than that," Blackstone adds. "Felons will say
anything to try and stay out of jail."

FBI sources say the bureau has two classifications for keeping track of
potential terrorists: those identified by real police work and those tagged
by the White House and the Department of Homeland Security. The White House
files are often referred to as the "Japanese Camp" files, a reference to
the detention of Japanese-Americans in camps during World War II.

"Don't misunderstand, there is a real terrorist threat to this country,"
says another FBI agent, "but every time we go public with one of this phony
'heightened state of alerts' it just numbs the public against the day when
we have another real alert."

Sources inside both the FBI and CIA say recent disclosure of a White House
planning memo listing the war on terrorism as a legitimate political
advantage and fundraising tool is just one of many documents that discuss
how to use the threat to greatest political advantage.

"Of course the White House is going to exploit the terrorism threat to the
fullest political advantage," says Democratic strategist Russ Barksdale.
"They would be fools not to. We'd do the same thing."

Yet political strategists on both sides admit the administration is playing
"with fire" and urge caution.

"We can't slam the Democrats on a daily basis for politicizing the war on
terrorism and then do the same thing ourselves," says one GOP consultant.
"It's very, very dangerous."

The White House would not return phone calls seeking comment on these
reports.
