Re: [CTRL] Background checks stopped more than 200,000 gun buys lastyear

2000-06-05 Thread Rock4Life

No, I would not say that it is workingThese are basic stats, in
black and white...These would reflect all rejections for no matter what
reason. You could have an unpaid parking ticket and get kicked out and
not be able to purchase if that is what your local authorities decide to
look at. Some years back a girl I know wanted to purchase a handgun and
was rejected, and was told that she was being looked for also, to her
shock. What had happened was that there was another girl with the same
name running around that they were looking for and they(the authorities)
thought it was her trying to buy a gun. The girl then had to take her
DL, birth certificate and some other forms of ID and go to the sheriffs
office to get it all straightened out(massive red tape) before she was
allowed to purchase. Thats one case, and another is just as simpleA
local gun dealer that lives behind me went to sale a gun to someone he
already new or was related to and was told to send that person
immediately to them that he had some business he had to get straight,
that is, he was rejected, and had to see the authorities...story
isunpaid tickets...so he was refused the right to by a gun like a
criminal just because he had not paid his ticket yet. So I would think
that there are a lot of cases just like these out there but your
anti-gun crowd will cheer on these stats as gun control working at its
bestYou have to go a little deeper to get to the root cause of all
these rejections, to see just what it was rejected for before grading
the scores..its an uphill battle my friendsRock4Life

Re: [CTRL] GUN SALES HALTED IN U.S.!

2000-05-13 Thread Rock4Life

Thought that I would make a comment on this, that it is true( I just
called my local dealer) for those that have to go through the NICS
checkbut those of us that have a concealed carry permit( As I do)
that was granted a good while back, we can still purchase because we do
not have to be checked with it. The dealer told me it would probably be
back on line by tom. afternoon, but as you say, this would stop a whole
lot of people from being able to purchase when they wanted to which is a
main point. We all are already filed in a database somewhere and the CCP
just puts us up a notch higher on the list. But living close to New
Orleans, I'd rather have the CCP than not

[CTRL] [Fwd: Smith Wesson Sell-out: Boycott!]

2000-03-21 Thread Rock4Life

GOA Announces Boycott of Clinton Wesson
-- Sell-out worse than originally reported

Gun Owners of America E-Mail/FAX Alert
8001 Forbes Place, Suite 102, Springfield, VA 22151
Phone: 703-321-8585 / FAX: 703-321-8408
http://www.gunowners.org

(Tuesday, March 21, 2000) -- Last week's "agreement" between Smith
Wesson and the Clinton Administration will undoubtedly be remembered
as one of the most regretful episodes in the modern Right to Keep
and Bear Arms movement. The firearms manufacturer's lamentable
decision to "settle" with the most anti-gun Administration in
history cannot go without a pointed response by all those who
seriously cherish and believe in the God-given right of individual
self defense.

The so-called settlement between Smith Wesson and the Departments
of Treasury, Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and local and state
governments is more a nationalization of the British-owned firm
which now, for the sake of accuracy, should be renamed the "The
Clinton Wesson Corporation." (More on this in just a moment.)

The Clinton Administration has achieved nearly every outrageous
demand in its original lawsuit without having to prove its case in a
court of law. This sellout agreement creates an "Oversight
Commission" that will include four government officials (one from
the BATF) and a Smith Wesson executive.

The Clinton Wesson commission will have the power of law to
enforce gun control upon any gun dealer that sells SW products and
upon any gun owner that buys from such a dealer!!! This is European
fascism at its best, and is much more draconian than what has been
reported in the media. Consider just some of the highlights:

Restrictions On Individual Gun Owners

   * Gun rationing: Any gun dealer that carries SW products can
NOT sell you two handguns on the same day... or during the same
week!!! (No more than one handgun during a 14-day period.)

So let's get this straight: a total gun ban in England has
neither stopped 3 million illegal guns from getting into criminal
hands nor stopped their crime rate from exceeding ours. But somehow
gun rationing here is going to keep criminals from getting guns.

   * Mandatory gun owner registration: A SW dealer will not be
able to sell any of his guns at a gun show unless ALL of the sales
at the show -- including private sales -- are run through a
registration background check. Why does the Clinton administration
want to know who every gun buyer is?

   * Mandatory training requirements: You will not be able to buy a
gun from a SW dealer unless you have put your rights on hold for
however long it takes to complete a certified training course.
Hopefully, someone you know will never try to buy their first gun to
protect themselves from a stalker or abusive spouse. Because now,
dealers carrying SW products cannot sell that person a self-defense
gun until that person jumps through the Clinton Wesson hoops.

Restrictions On Gun Dealers

   * Mandatory employee training. This would require all employees
of dealers and distributors to attend mandatory ATF approved
training. Thus, dealers who have had a business for 20 years will
now need to send their employees to the federal government for
indoctrination.

   * Dealer entrapment. The agreement requires persons under 18 to
be accompanied by adults either in gun stores covered by this
agreement or in the gun sections of those stores. So the next time
Wal-Mart lets those pesky 17-year-olds walk near the gun section of
its store, look out! An ATF agent may jump out from behind the camo
rack and bust the employees for not carding the juveniles and
keeping them out.

   * BATF harassment provision. This agreement gives the new
Oversight Commission (including its BATF representative) unfettered
access into gun dealers' stores -- more so than is currently allowed
by federal law. Any time it wants, the BATF can reach its dirty
hand into the dealer's records and gain "access to documents
necessary to determine compliance."

According to the official summary found on HUD's website, this
agreement is "enforceable as a court order and as a contract." You
may have heard on the news about some of the "anti-safety" devices
that SW has agreed to include on their weapons -- trigger locks,
smart gun technology, etc. These are anti-safety devices that will
cost innocent lives if they are imposed upon the public. After all,
if they truly were safety devices, then why does the Clinton and
Wesson agreement exempt law enforcement and the military from having
these items on their guns?

For these reasons and more, Gun Owners of America is urging its near
quarter of a million members and all those committed to a NO
COMPROMISE position in regard to the Second Amendment to
disassociate themselves from the firearms manufacturer and BOYCOTT
all Smith Wesson products.

This is a serious and dramatic step and one which we had never
envisioned taking. We are aware of the "extortionary" pressure that

[CTRL] Y2K: The Coming Storm

 -Caveat Lector-

Hello all, since I don't research that much and have posted very little
I am wondering if any of the members here could answer a question for
me. I happen to see an interesting program on the INSP network tonite
and the topic was "Y2K: The Coming Storm". It told a lot of what has
already been posted on here and showed a couple of clips of Clinton
speaking to a group about the y2k bug that I have never seen on the
national news. It also advertised three different books on the subject
and that is what I would like to know if they are any good and worth
reading. The names of the books are: Planet Earth, The Final Chapter by
Hal LindseyJan. 1, 2000, The Day The World Shuts Down by Morris
Cerrullo...and the 3. The Millenium Meltdown by Grant R. Jeffrey. I
would like to have some opinions on these to know if they are worth
buying..Rock

Brady Gun Control Shows its Ugly Face
-- GOA needs your horror stories

by Larry Pratt
Executive Director, Gun Owners of America
8001 Forbes Place Suite 102
Springfield, VA 22151
703-321-8585 http://www.gunowners.org

(Friday, December 11, 1998)-- It is no understatement to say
that the first week for the National Instant Background Check was a
huge flop. Despite five years to prepare for the November 30
deadline, the administration and the FBI simply weren't ready.

Delays, delays, and more delays marked the first few days
under Part II of the Brady law. If one were cynical, one might be
tempted to think that the delays were intentional.

Nationwide, customers have left gun stores in disgust
without purchasing their intended firearms. And in some cases,
gun dealers have even been stuck with special orders that they
have purchased, but couldn't transfer when endless delays caused
the gun buyers to give up.

What to do when the "trains don't run on time" . . .

Unfortunately, the answer in some sectors of the pro-gun
movement has been to work towards making the "trains run on
time." Make the Instant "Registration" Check work more efficiently,
they say, so there won't be any delays and interruptions.

Those of you who have been with us for a while know that
we are completely opposed to this approach. We don't want these
government "trains" running at all. But this stance should come as
no surprise. Gun Owners of America was the only national gun
lobby to oppose the Instant Registration Check in 1993, when the
law first passed. And to this day, we continue to fight against this
unconstitutional monstrosity with every ounce of our organizational
being.

Fire back with a "shotgun approach"

During the last Congress, you helped us push for the repeal
of the entire Brady law, including the insidious Instant Registration
Check. Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) was the author of the bill to repeal
this law (H.R. 2721), and he has already told us that he plans to
reintroduce his bill next year.

At this moment, GOA is looking at opportunities to challenge
this law. The current case that has been filed in the federal courts
is a good first step. But GOA wants to challenge the ENTIRE
background check system, not just the part about illegally
registering gun owners (as bad as that is).

GOA needs your help. We need to hear about some of the
horror stories that you are enduring. We've already received some.
But we need to get some more. First, let me tell you what I'm NOT
asking for.

Delays. If there is one word that characterizes the Instant
Registration system right now, it is the word "delay." The press has
been replete with examples, and that's one area that is pretty much
common knowledge. Additional examples are not needed to make
this case.

What I do need are actual examples of abuse. (I realize that
delays-- if intentionally caused-- can be a form of abuse. But one
needs evidence to prove the delays were intentional.) As for
examples of official abuse, some of you have already sent some
pretty compelling stories:

* FBI officials telling gun dealers that a buyer can only
purchase one handgun in a month's period (in a state
  which does NOT have a one-gun-a-month law);

* State officials admitting they use the background checks
  to deny people with unpaid traffic fines;

* State officials requesting copies of the 4473 forms
without any statutory authority to do so; and

* FBI officials asking for gun serial numbers or for Social
Security numbers before approving background checks.

These are the types of incidents that will help us fight this
law in Congress and in the courts. So if you have an example
(even one that mirrors the above four cases), please send GOA
your story, and include as much documentation as you possibly
can.
